Kings Cross to Piccadilly Circus

Hi,

Right on the 18th of September (a Saturday) I'm going to London to see a play on Shaftesbury Avenue, my plan was (and TfL journey planner backed me up) was to take the Piccadilly Line to Piccadilly Circus from Kings Cross at around 13:00 then walk to the theatre. To come back I was going to do the same in reverse walk to Piccadilly Circus then take tube back to Kings Cross (leaving Piccadilly Circus at around 17:30ish). However upon consulting TfL journey planner it says I should walk to Leicester Square tube station then take the Piccadilly back to the Cross. Anyone know why and is that actually correct I won't be able to use Piccadilly Circus to get back to Kings Cross on the 18th at around 17:30?

One final question anyone know anywhere cheapish to eat near Kings Cross?

Which end of Shaftesbury Avenue is the theatre at?

If there are no engineering works affecting the Piccadilly that day it could just be that it's a shorter walk to Leicester Square.

Doesn't seem to be much in it, its the Gielgud Theater if that's any help.

It's just odd because I'm specifically typing in Piccadilly Circus into the Journey Planner and it's telling me to walk from Piccadilly Circus Tube Station to Leicester Square Tube station.

The tube stations in central London are so close together that it probably wouldn't make much difference

Hmmm.... the Gielgud is actually closer to Piccadilly Circus than Leicester Square. But you're right, there isn't much difference in it.

Always depends what you like to eat and how you define "cheap", but if you exit KX on to Euston Road and make a left along to the junction with York Way, turn left so you're heading down York Way alongside the station which will now be on your left. You can then:

1 - Choose Nando's which is right across the road from you at that point or
2 - Make a first right (can't remember the name of the road) with the Premier Inn hotel on your left, and walk along there. About 100yds along on the right is a place called "Kitchen" opposite the tesco metro - slightly posher than Nandos but seems to get a good review.

Failing that... KX has a Burger King!

Go along Euston Road and there's stuff like Pizza Express, which isn't too expensive (well, unless you get alcohol). However, that's a bit more of a walk.

One thing I would say is that the walk to Leicester Square may be a tad longer, but you're one station closer to King's Cross, so you'll save a couple of minutes straight away.

Another thing that's too late now(!); go online and get yourself a Bite card: http://www.bitecard.co.uk/default.asp

That will get you 20% off at loads of establishments at mainline stations, when operated by SSP - that even includes pubs operated by SSP, giving you 20% off alcohol too!

Otherwise Burger King will make an open return first class ticket to Scotland seem cheap by comparison.

Yeah I must admit I did a bit of a double take at the lack of much change from a tenner at burger king!
