Ok folks....

Arriving around 2pm Friday 27th June

Leaving Sunday 29th June around midday.

Four adults.

Interested in 2nd and 1st class.

Two adults currently have senior railcards but they are due to expire before travel date. They are considering not renewing and purchasing the Two Together card instead.

There is the added complication that the two seniors may not be travelling back on the 29th but I think I will ignore that for the time being.

Looking forward to my ticket day with you guys in May.....

That journey looks like an obvious candidate for some of the headline low-price fares between the 2 capitals offered by East Coast. They only appeared for sale 4 or 5 days ago. However, they do sell quickly.

For example, the noon departure on the 27th is showing only 6 seats left at £38.70 (standard class. With Railcard that's about £26) and the 10:30 departure from Kings X on Sun 29th is showing only 2 seats left at the same price.

The next tier of seats in standard is £50 (with Railcard about £33).

I doubt that it's worth looking for clever 'splits' when there's still cheap Advance tickets available which cover the whole journey.

You may also want to consider East Coast's Small Group Discount fares. Plenty of departures are available on the Friday for a grand total of £148 for the four of you in Standard altogether. Alternatively, some £33 fares are available (with Railcard) so one of you can book the £33 fare, while the other three can go on the Small Group booking (minimum required), and pay a total of £111 for that. This works out slightly cheaper than booking all four on the Small Group fare.

If I put three or four persons in their website will it automatically apply the small group discounts?

When I was playing around on their it seemed to compound disdpcounts or is this an error in me/it?

The discount should be automatically applied. The fare should have a letter "G" displayed next to "EC Advance".

There is no further discount AFAIK.

Wanted to get sat together so went to Paddington to buy the group 3 and one on railcard.

They can't sell me it!

Small Group fare is online only AFAIK.

So there is no ground for complaint I'm afraid.

No, you can't. You must book online.

However East Coast have a seat selection function so you can make sure that you have four seats around the same table.
