Travelling from the East into Heathrow due Heathrow 19:00 Friday 27/1/17. Probably scope for delay as involves a flight change. Need to get from Kings Cross to Scunthorpe or Doncaster would do. Can get an advance for £13 but if I miss the train I’m snookered. Anybody offer advice that bags a cheap ride but maybe has some flexibility? THX.

Have a google of Doncaster's power hour. It seems to allow you an hour either side of advanced tickets there. That would give you a two hour window, which should be enough...

Advances will be the cheapest option, even if you end up buying two advances for different trains to give you a backup option.

The last train from Kings Cross with a connection to Scunthorpe is at 2035, which is much too early for a connection out of a longhaul flight into Heathrow.

The earliest train I'd consider is the 2200 Kings Cross to Doncaster (final destination is Newcastle), but YMMV.

At that sort of arrival time, your best bet is a night in a cheap hotel and a suitable Advance the following day.

Travelodge Heathrow Central is only £21 for that day. It's actually in Cranford and not the immediate Heathrow area, but is only a £1.50 bus ride away (Oyster/Contactless fare).

Agree, at that time of year weather wise, with a long haul flight arriving well into the evening think you'd be pushing the 2035 if everything went perfectly, I would definitely second a cheap hotel in the nearby area and an advance the next day after the peak which will lower costs
