Kings Cross to Cambridge advice

A friend wants to travel from Kings Cross to Cambridge.

- Off Peak Day Return - £21 (code B1 - valid from 09:30+)
- Day Return - £30

Does anyone know if the price of these tickets can be brought down? She wants to arrive in Cambridge for around 09:30. Using the above CDR on the 09:45 gets in at 10:35. I've checked and FCC have code B1 on other stations nearby to Cambridge.

Given that the fast trains from the Cross to Cambridge are all non-stop, I suspect you're out of luck on that front...

£17.50 off peak day return from Liverpool Street. Obvioulsy takes longer but valid on 08:28 arriving Cambridge 09:42.

You can get the £30 fare down to £27 by splitting at Sawbridgeworth when travelling from Liverpool St.

Thanks for all your tips. I'll pass on the Liverpool St option.

Just as an aside, she's travelling Kings Cross to Stevenage tomorrow on a good value "First Class Off Peak Return". This is route Any Permitted, so I guess she'll have no problems using EC? Presumably this ticket will also entitle her to enter the First Class Lounge - she has a seat reserved for the EC service in case of any problems.

Yes, of course, as per NRCoC Condition 10. Any restriction on TOC must be "printed on the ticket", and if it says "Any Permitted" then you can use any TOC on the route.

You've got no chance of getting an advance out of FCC afaik I live in their territory and they're useless
