Kings cross services are suspended

due to signal failure at finsbury park no services in or out. People being told to take tube to alex palace for local services and liverpool street for cambridge. No mention about ec/hull/gc services

So, yes use of both MML and VWC is acceptable.

I was being slightly rhetorical, but it does alwys seem that the more sophisticated things get, the more comprehensively they go wrong when they do go wrong - and they do seem to go wrong rather a lot. Wires down, signalling problems, loco failures and so on.

FCC just tweeted that NR are now onsite, performing an assessment.

The Live Departures board showing everything from 19:30 onwards as 'On Time' is looking optimistic, and that's putting it rather kindly. This is normal for such disruptions, of course, but I'm sure "lessons will be learned".

The good news is that the 1814 to Peterborough has just made it out of King's Cross, 64 minutes late. The bad news is it's not past Finsbury Park yet.

A bit late but for futuire reference, never take the 19:30 STP-LDS if you want Sheffield, Wakefield or Leeds. The 19:55 arrives LDS 35mins earlier.

Looking at the NR Phone App, the 19:18 London - Sunderland is just saying 'Delayed' from the Cross, and this is at 21:07!

Anyone know what's happening with this one?

Can't help, but it looks like something has escaped from King's Cross and there could be more coming.

Just out of interest, if something happens at Finsbury Park or south thereof, where could you (in an imaginary situation ) send trains? Preferably with interchange opportunities? Is there anywhere on the GOBLin?

Finsbury Park itself can be used (if the problem isn't there) as a temporary terminus; indeed does get used during engineering. North of there? Dunno. Lack of anywhere with a proper tube interchange north of there.

Grand Central is reporting it is due to theft of signalling power cables.

We are sorry to announce that due to the theft of signalling power cables there is major disruption to train services into/out of London Kings Cross Station on Monday evening. This is affecting all train services. Our trains are subject to major delay & will start/terminate at locations north of Kings Cross (i.e. Welwyn Garden City, or Stevenage or Peterborough). Therefore passengers can use other Companies' services to/from London, or delay travel until tomorrow. This problem will regrettably have a knock on delay (likely to be upto 75 minutes) on our 0749 London Kings Cross to Sunderland service Tuesday morning.

How can theft of signalling cables be East Coast's fault ? Only thing they could be criticised for last night is their information provided, but they certainly arent to blame for the cause.

Part of the LNER empire was wired and they also experimented with colour light signalling

Granted though what is now the ECML wasn't wired.

I agree with others that East Coast cannot be held to blame for the theft of cables or other infrastructure failures. They are a train operator same as other TOCs.

What I dont get is why they dont tell you at kings cross that certain trains are running north from Stevenage or potters bar. Rather than letting you sit and wait at kings cross in the hope that something might happen.

Its now happening quite a lot that Kings Cross is cut off so why is there communication so poor.
