Kings Cross - Royston off peak return

Hi all. Need to do this journey this evening, heading out from Kings Cross around 1645 and returning later tonight. Can anyone confirm if the outward portion of an off-peak ticket is valid out of London at this time? NRE suggests it is but I understood that off peak tickets out of London weren't valid at all until 1900? Or is this just the return portions?

.. as a general question then the answer is that it doesn't work like that. You have to look up the validity code.

Anyway for your specific query, a London to Royston Off Peak outward is not valid at that time (according to NFM03) however I have no idea what excess they'd charge if an RPI were to check your ticket as there isn't an Anytime. The equivalent validity would be 2x SDS at £17 each so I would guess the excess would be £4. ((£34-£26)/2)

An Off Peak Day outward to London to Royston is valid at that time.
