King’s Cross hotels

I was around St Pancras this week noticed a huge new office block with restaurants coming. I am surprised there’s no major new hotels near by? Both Premier Inn’s are always fully booked. Other options are 5x the price. With a possible St Pancras expansion why is there no new hotels coming? Surely with Eurostar expanding there’s a market?

There’s loads of reasonably priced (for London) chain hotels within walking distance, and I’ve stayed in most of them (overnight, not by the hour!). There’s also a load of more independent hotels just south of the Euston Road.

Chain hotels within 15 minutes’ walk:

Premier Inn x 4 - all of which have rooms available tonight and tomorrow (plus another two within a mile)
Travelodge x 4
Hilton x 2 (plus another within a mile)
Pullman (ex Novotel)
Holiday Inn / Crown Plaza x 2
etc

This excludes the high end hotels, such as those at St P and KX stations.

Yes but why when there’s so much being built around St Pancras has some hotel chains not come in? Surely a demand there?

I usually stay in one of the Travelodge's on Kings Cross Road (The Royal Scott is my preferred choice). They are good value for 'central London' and cheaper than the hotels on Euston Road.

The only place I have stayed around there is the Travelodge Royal Scot. It features dated rooms but the bar area is up to date and very busy.

Many of them have been refurbished now, I stayed there last month in one of the refurbished rooms. It is still dated in the sense that the rooms don't have air conditioning but that never bothers me.

Last time I stayed there was in the 2003 heatwave, and the lack of aircon was extremely bothersome then!
