Key?

Spotted this the other day at Bristol Parkway, as a non railway person is this a key of some sort?

It is indeed. A key used by guards, drivers and anyone else who may need to open doors, cupboards etc on or around trains. A bit like a skeleton key for access to most parts of a train and often stations for disabled ramps etc.

Indeed a t-key. Possibly been dropped when opening a door, can be retrieved with the necklace although the delays usually mean a spare is kept in the rucksack by most.

obviously as a passenger you don’t just help yourself to the windows though....

As a passenger Ive lent my preserved railway carriage key to a guard to open the windows on a 159, Ive taken it off my key ring now due to difficulties passing through airport security.
