Key Smartcard season weirdness at Peterborough

Curiously, while officially The Key is not accepted at Peterborough, my mother did have a Peterborough to London Zones 1-6 travelcard (weekly season) loaded on there at the ticket office. It works the barriers just fine on both ends. And the RPIs on LNER trains could check the ticket just fine.

The only issue is that it is classed as an incomplete journey on her Key Smartcard account. KeyGo is blocked/closed upon request, but will there be any further issues, considering my mother has a season ticket? Would she get charged some penalty?

I know this smartcard is not supposed to be valid at Peterborough, but ITSO weirdness seemed to have made it possible, still?

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Key Go isn't valid at Peterborough the the Key Smartcard is. They are two very different things. We can load a ticket onto the smartcard EG the Travelcard but pay as you go isn't available.

It’s just that every Key map I look at, Peterborough is greyed out for even travel cards.

I’m worried that the constant “incomplete journeys” would get my mother into trouble, as the journey history system doesn’t recognise the station unless I amend it.

Indeed, for example the Great Northern website has a page called "Stations where you can use The Key Smartcard" which includes the statement "The card can't be used currently at the following stations: Peterborough, King’s Lynn, Watlington, Downham Market, Ely, Waterbeach, Cambridge" and a link to a PDF map dated June 2020 in which Peterborough is greyed out (but not the other stations listed!). Note though that the map legend explains that grey means "Fares not yet available", and evidently fares are now available. Presumably all of this information is outdated now that smartcards have been rolled out nationwide, and the only restriction on whether a smartcard can be used is whether you are able to select smartcard fulfilment when buying the ticket.

The touches not registering at Peterborough is presumably a separate issue.

???
Under Key Smartcard Tickets you have just one (or more) keyGo Balance £0 Product blocked? [I've got two keyGo Balance "tickets" one of which is Product Blocked and the other Loaded on card.]
Under keyGo Account you have nothing as you cancelled the keyGo account?

Thank you - found it weird that a season valid on LNER beyond Stevenage could be loaded on The Key, when those maps said otherwise.

My mother touches in and out at Peterborough and it does open the barriers. It should have recognised the station.

Maybe GTR are trying to keep it simple, easy answer is to pick up a LNER Smartcard for Peterborough trips

That was something that I'm considering.

It's very strange that it says it's blocked, instead of cancelled.

The way it's supposed to work is the same as supermarket carriers, you can shop in Tesco with a Waitrose bag. You can load a LNER product onto an Avanti card.

Can some cards be set to take only some products? So, I have an old TfWM "Swift" card I used to have a proper monthly Direct Debit season on, and I now use a LNWR card for a flexi-season. In theory the flexi-season could be loaded on the Swift card I already had?

Not sure if PTE cards are the same to be honest I was reffering to TOC cards which I probably should have made clearer.

I suspect that wouldn't work, I tried to use (3 different types) of swift card on a LNWR TVM and it wouldn't play ball at all, wouldn't load the ITSO screen at all, just got an error (meanwhile a GTR card worked fine).

The non-TOC ones seem far less compatible, whereas I've never had issues with a TOC one

I just ordered one successfully, so I don't think it's broken in the general case. I don't understand why the order form would give you a message about linking your smartcard either, surely that comes later in the process?

Every time I try to order one I get the error message

"There was an error linking your Smartcard.

Please try again or call us on 03457 225 333"

LNER web chat confirmed to me that it doesn't work at present.
It's ony been switched on to link to your account for a couple of weeks.

Thats an automatic process that just happens in the background

The Key Smartcard can be and is used at Ely and Cambridge. There were problems with it not being recognised at Kings Cross gates (July 2020 onwards) but these were resolved about 12 months ago. Not sure much my repeated requests to Great Northern had to do with it ;)
The daily conversations explaining it had a valid season ticket but the gates aren't programmed for it were great fun, especially when attempting to get through the barriers just before the train departs.

As Adam said I'm only trying to order a card not link it, but it still comes up with the linking error message.

My mother ended up getting an LNER smartcard. I do wish that The Key would recognise Peterborough as a station, but I think it wasn't programmed in. I raised the concerns with GTR anyway.
