Kew Bridge to Leicester

Hello can someone please offer some advice to me.
I am buying a return ticket as follows (it's the cheapest - maybe called off peak:
26 Jan Leicester to Kew Bridge dept 10:24
28 Jan KWB to LEI dept 18:11

On my return journey I may already be in central London.
Questions:
1 Can I use my ticket only from St P or must I have travelled from KWB?
2 Can I jump on the underground from any central zone 1 UG station using my train ticket or must I pay for my journey to St P using my oyster card.
3 Would it be cheaper to buy my return from LEI to St P then use my oyster card for St P to Kew bridge return (separate days).

Are you looking at the £40.55 fare?

If so, then you can use the ticket from St Pancras. You do not have to have travelled from Kew Bridge.

You cannot start your cross-London transfer at any central London station. You may however start from an applicable central London terminal for Kew Bridge (Waterloo, Charing Cross, Victoria, etc).

If St Pancras - Kew Bridge are the only journeys you need to make in London, then the through ticket is cheaper.

1. On an off-peak ticket, it's totally fine to start your return journey at St. Pancras if you want.

2. You can't use your ticket to/from any Underground station, however. Only from a station appropriate to the route of your journey. So from Kew Bridge, Vauxhall or Waterloo would be most appropriate. You could probably blag it at a few others too, but not just any random Zone 1 station.

3. It looks like the super off-peak return (SSR) fare to Kew Gardens is £1.90 more than the fare to St. Pancras. So you'd save a bit by using that even if you didn't use the London part in both directions. You could use the return ticket to travel into Vauxhall/Waterloo, then break your journey in London and use your Oyster within Zones 1-2 for the day.

Sub question. We may decided to spend some time in London. In which case we would make our return journey on Friday leaving KWB at say 9.30am.
Can we use our return train ticket at that time from KWB to Vauxhall. Then spend the day in London using our Oyster card and then use our train ticket from St P to Lei on the 7.15pm? Sub sub question can we book that journey to ensure we get a seat on the 7.15 even though we shall be leaving KWB earlier than the start of journey for the 7.15 from St P would think reasonable (ie we are leaving KWB at 9.30am but for a journey departing st p at 7.15 NRE shows departing KWB at 18:11)

There is no time restriction between Kew Bridge and central London. You may travel at any time. You can stop in London for as long as you like.

Sorry to ask so many questions but I am a pensioner and am more or less always worried when I travel by train lest my ticket is not valid for some obscure reason or another, and then get charged a huge sum of money to buy a ticket onboard at full price.

Yes, you can travel as far as Waterloo. There is no time restriction between Kew Bridge and central London, so you can travel at 5am if you so wish, even if the ticket says "Super Off-Peak", due to the Network Area rule.

NETWORK AREA:

The 'Network area' is defined as the area in which the Network railcard is valid. For details, Network Railcard map.

Super Off-Peak tickets issued for journeys commencing within the Network Area to destinations outside the Network Area with travel via London are valid by any train to London to connect with trains from London.

Super Off-Peak tickets issued for journeys commencing outside the Network Area for travel via London, take the restrictions from the origin station to London and return.

Unless shown otherwise on the following pages, they are unrestricted between London and the destination station and return.

Thanks again bb21. Though the ticket I am buying is, I believe a super off-peak and is from Leicester. I shall be on the return journey so presumably any restrictions DO apply.

Though, I think ???, you are saying there aren't any time restrictions on that part of the journey from KBG to Vauxhall/Waterloo even with a sop ticket.

Correct. The restriction only applies to the leg between Leicester (outside the Network Area) and London in both directions.
