Kent to Glagow (help needed)

Hi guys,

Intend to travel from Ashford (Kent) to Glasgow, in 3 weeks

I just need some tips of the best (and maybe cheaper options)

Am i best to break the journey, see about getting coaches or buying the ticket as a whole etc

any help would be great..

Day of the week? One way or return? Times you'd like to depart/arrive? Flexibility or fixed booking? Railcard holder?

What times are you travelling, you can get reasonably priced tickets from Ashford - Glasgow via both East Coast and West Coast, although 3 weeks ahead I would not be surprised if AP isn't an option. A word of warning on AP's always look up the price between London and Glasgow and Ashford to Glasgow. You may find it cheaper to split the journey in London.

I know there are multiple other splits such as Warrington and York, but unfortunatlely I can't tell you if they are cheaper.

Travelling south however you will not be able to use AP tickets on the HS line between about 1600 and 1900 so if you are likely to need to then buy your AP to London and get an Ashford - Welwyn Garden City return (Cheaper than St Pancras)

No problems with the crossing of London then.

£82.65 gets you a super off peak return
The cheapest I can see with AP tickets would cost you £72.60 (via York) so I would go for the SSR to be honest in that case.

You can do London - Glasgow on Virgin AP's for about £60 but the cost of the Ashford - Welwyn Garden City would push it above the East Coast AP price)

I've found a workable itinerary via Crewe for £70.95:

Single Advance, London Euston-Crewe, 08:10-09:48, £7.25

Single Advance, Crewe-Glasgow, 10:09-13:17, £20.15

Single Advance, Crewe-London, 17:33-20:49, £5.30

Walk Euston>St Pancras

Return leg, London-Ashford, 21:12-21:50

Need to add the bus to luton airport and to wherever you are going in Glasgow

If you want to save some cash getting between Ashford and London go for the Ashford - Welwyn Garden City fare - it is only £21.45 with a railcard and valid on HS1.

You can also travel via Manchester

Crewe to Manchester advance tickets are available in Both directions for between £14 & £20.
manchester to Glasgow advance tickets are available both directions for between £12 & £16.
By going on a journey planner and finding convenient connections the journey each way is about £30 making a total of approx £60.00

Return Journey

1340 Glasgow to Preston arr 1550 this is an Euston Train, but it's easier to split.. Advance Single with 16-25 Railcard £7.60

get off @ Preston and get on to the 1559.

Advance Single with 16-25 Railcard £22.75

1559 Preston to London Euston arr 1809

1912 London St Pancras to Ashford arr 1950

Total price £58.75

You should be able to do them altogether, sites such as eastcoast.co.uk let you do this, just click on the "save journey for later" button and pay for them all at the same time at the end.
