I've noticed in recent times that, on the GE from London to Colchester, there's a new-ish neutral section on the OHLE a short way north of Kelvedon Station. Why? There are already existing neutral sections just South of Witham plus, North of Colchester respectively that are only approx 15 miles apart. I thought one of the main economic advantages of AC Electrification was that, less power supply/substations, etc., were necessary only every 20-30 miles?
