Keep The Train Clean!

Several years ago at Liverpool Lime St, I asked an BTP officer what I should do with my empty coffee cup. He instructed me to just leave it on the floor as there were no bins due to the terror threat.

I know someone who did the same thing a few months ago and got fined by Liverpool City Council for doing so. Also - isn't a coffee cup on the floor just as much of a "threat" (however much that "threat" may be) as one in a bin?

The threat is that you can get something much larger than a coffee cup into a bin. Arguably not providing the clear plastic bag bins at major stations is a bit of an overreaction, but it has been proved before that bombs in bins can kill

I can also fit something much larger than a coffee cup into my bag. Or inside my bicycle. Or in a toilet bowl. Or in my hat. I think that all bags, bicycles, toilet bowls and hats should be banned from the railway with immediate effect! Now that I think about it, perhaps if we banned people from travelling on the railway then the railway terror threat would entirely disappear? I can't believe nobody has thought of this yet!

Any bomb can kill. Merely walking around a town I can get killed by a bomb. It is a tiny risk that modern society has to take.

Is this a nationwide problem as most trains I travel on outside Northern, TPE and Merseyrail seem clean?

Travelling in Norway back in 1996, I noticed that there were paper bags located by each bank of seats which you could tear off and put your rubbish in. Suggested this to my former company SWT......no answer.

Then of course, it is easier and quicker for the cleaning staff to run through and clean the train.

If only as much time, effort and money was directed in proportion to the risk towards reducing motor vehicle related deaths.
