Hi - have the opportunity next week to do this line via Krasny Jez which is apparently quite scenic? Struggling to find anything about it though so has anyone been on it and is it worth worth the trip - or are there any other lines in the area that are? Also is there a side of the train with better scenery to sit on? Many thanks in advance.

Its not CD anymore but what once was GWtrains and now? (forgot-just check any planner). Tiny green/yellow former German dieselsets.
It all depends-like so many things in life-have you travelled much in CZ? I cannot remember it as being very outstanding-nor as this has been written about it much. After many KMs in CZ and on CD and others all those never straight, through the hills and woods with dozens of stops at tiny all-the-same stations and mostly in the (now labelled as) regiomouse 810 1-mancars for me it gets blurred. There are so many turns+twists etc that any advice about L or R hand would be valid for only till next corner.
The area south of Plzen has perhaps a little more scenic to watch-and cheap daytickets as this province is also turned into a german style ¨Verbund´ Area.
On ML-KV you pay on train to conductress-like BR once had as ´paytrain´
(KV has very good and much faster as train direct BUSes to Praha-both RegioJet and a local operator-together mostly ev 30 mins). Also be aware of the 2 stations that are quite far apart there-in town and up the hill (=main one on electric main line Cheb-Usti)

Depends how far you want to go, and what you like!

From personal experience:
The section north of Becov nad Teplou is typical valley-bottom stuff, very pleasant but not spectacular, further south it crosses a watershed, so go for it.

Becov is the junction for a lightly-trafficked route to Blatno - think one-person-operated railbuses and minimal signalling - which I also recommend if you like backwaters. It connects with a line running down to Plzen which is also good.

In the same vein is the route from Plana u M.L. to Domazlice.

North from KV the line up to Johanngeorgenstadt on the border is worth it.T

The main line E and W is good for heavy freight AIUI.

Sounds nice enough - thank you all!

Honestly, this is one of the best things about the Czech Republic! No matter where you go and on what line, it's likely to have nice and varied scenery.

Karlovy Vary is a wonderful place though. I went there three years ago, not expecting very much, and well. I was wrong!

Agreed absolutely - there are few things in life more relaxing than meandering along secondary (or tertiary) routes in the rural Czech Republic!
