After my Flixtrain from Berlin arrives around lunchtime, I have several hours to kill in Köln before my late flight at 23:00. Am I best off buying a 24 hour ticket if I want to do several trips? If it's nice, I may just walk everywhere until the ride to the airport and simply pay a one-way to there.

Day ticket costs 8.50 (8.24 online) for zone 1b
Single ticket costs 3.50 (3.39 online) for zone 1b

With single tickets in Germany you can get off the train along the way so Iong as you keep going in the same direction of travel.

The tickets have a duration limit when they are first activated. ( Stamped in the Entwerter at the entrance to the bus/tram/platform with paper tickets. ) In zone 1 the duration limit is 90 minutes.

VRM is day rather than 24h but you only need it to the evening so OK.
