37421 on NR

Greeted by this sight off my morning commute. Takes me back 25? years....when I didn't live up here and this was commonplace......

Nice. I think 37421 was an Inverness loco in the 1980s too.

Failed to see what was on the other end but thought the overhead wires inspection carriage behind the loco was a little premature for the Far North lines.

Perhaps just as far as Dingwall please.

37025 Inverness TMD was on the other end. I viewed from the 0845 to Glasgow.

Yes, 37421 was based at IS from conversion in 1985 to ETH, until the introduction of Sprinters. The eight ETH equipped 37s based at Inverness upon conversion were 37414-21. For a short period in 1989, after Sprinters got introduced on the West Highland Line, 37412 was also moved to Inverness, before it was sent to Laira depot in Plymouth, for use on China Clay traffic with Inverness based 37414.

Excellent picture mate. I've seen 37's parked there many times in the old days.
I've seen the the whole place fill up with clag when it's gone out light engine after the the service in front had departed.

It was quite exciting when ex Scottish 37/4s started appearing in Exeter on freight trains. I remember it well.

Runs in the set and means that two trains aren't required. Mentor goes all over the place away from the wires although Inverness is quite impressive.
