You won't like the fact I scored some shacks arriving and departing by foot, and others arriving and departing by car then![emoji38]
I've arrived and departed all of them by train too, just not got off at some of them[emoji38]
You have your rules I have mine! :p

5 shacks is very good for a line like that! Even if it was a dull day, you turned it into a great read!

I wonder how many I'd get (needing all of them)!

You obviously had time to go and spend literally the entire day doing those, I had significantly less time! Some nasty looking festers, I'd certainly not want to copy those moves!

Plus, as I said earlier, different people have different rules Cynghordy really will be awkward without a bike, no useful bus service whatsoever to anywhere! And to wait for the next train there would involve a long ol' fester!

Aye, the festers were a bit long! Theres a hotel near Bucknell mind, a nice sleep was enjoyed at Llangynllo and of course Aldi was visitied at Llandrindod!

Good write-up again; looks a nasty old line to disembark at every station. Would certainly take a while, even more so if you aren't local to the line! Mind you, might be easier than the Cambrian Coast/Far North Line/Kyle Line!!

Good read mate, must say, you must have the patiece of a saint, congrats on getting those 5 shack scores, it's testimony to you, hitting that line with knowing there'll be no winners, other than shacks. I doff my cap to you tech because I know at least one person, who wouldn't have even contemplated going anywhere near it, given that situation, Me!!!!!.

What, Tesco not good enough for you? ;)

Crispy: Aye it's not the easiest, but as you say easier than the Cambrian and Far North lines. They will take some extreme effort!

Glad you enjoyed the read squire, yeah I wanted a cheap day out so it came in handy! Until new trains arrive in the ATW fleet there will be no winners full stop, although I might eventually reach the goal of making the entire ATW fleet into Super Duds in the process of shack scoring!

Good read Tech, it got me thinking about how I do my shacks and realised that it is going to take me ages to get loads of them, although when I do plan my moves I do it to enhance the number of shacks I can get. (which shows seeing I only have on average a 3 minute margin of error!) My rule is that for a shack to count I have to arrive/depart by train or both.

Good day out there Tech, some great scenery around Sugar Loaf if I remember correctly

Indeed there is, been through the area many times over the years and is always a stop off point when on a road trip through the area

I really wouldn't envy you doing those by physically jumping off at every shack. Would dread to think how long that would take to do!

I haven't looked into how long it would take, but quite some time for sure! One day I will crack on with the Cambrian shacks, but it's going to need many trips to do them!

The only difficult thing about the Cambrian and Far North Lines is that it is a long branch to nowhere (as in it dosent connect to anywhere else). You do get more shacks and units though, although if you count buses and walking then you would probably do better on the HoW tbh.

It's something that's been in the pipeline for ages, I am slowly making plans to conquer that part of largely untouched (well, since I started bashing anyway) Wales!

That's the problem, and the general irregularity of service. I'd imagine the Cambrian could easily take 5-6-7-8 attempts I'm guessing without looking at the timetables, and that's assuming you didn't encounter delays which are definitely likely on a single-line track.

Be fun to try though! :p

That's all fine and good if your base camp is in Shrewsbury and you don't mind 3 consecutive days of just under 15 hours of bashing. For a rather significant number of us, that would be a bit of a challenge, and yes I include myself in that!

Plus, you'd have to really, really, like your 158 action to spend that much time on them. I'd also want about £15 a day to spend just on coffee each day. Either that or 5 cans of Monster Khaos a day! Actually there's an idea for a hashtag...<D

It's also fair to say I've got a serious temptation to head to Wales again on Monday...

That dosent have to necessarily have to be three consecutive days, can be done certainly from Crewe.

More fool you if you want to be up for the 0454 off Crewe! ;)

Fair point about it not being consecutive days, I'm about to dig out the timetable and see what ones I can do in a day trip from Hereford

Been on that service a few times. Its good for sleeping on put it that way! Only problem is I'm always asleep through Shrewsbury, which, if going for the Cambrian is a bit of an issue!

Looking at the Cambrian, a week's B&B in somewhere like Barmouth would seem to be the most civilized method for shack scratching...

I agree with Roebuck, it has to be a B&B. Was put off camping the last time I did it was on the Llyn Peninsula and half the groups tents got either blown away or damaged...not camped since.

Setting up base camp somewhere around Barmouth would certainly make sense, and I think there's now a number of us all looking up B&Bs...;)
