Techniquest - Are you going anywhere near Monte Wigan-o on your bashing in the near future?

Actually we are popping into Wigan on the 0426 from Glasgow on 21st November, en-route to Liverpool. Not sure how long we're stopping for but I can't imagine it will be long!

Good write up once again Tech.

Guess this is what bashing is all about, and shows everyone is different, and have different goals, etc. Personally a trip like that wouldn't have scored me anything, so I'd never have entertained it, as I only count stations and not the trains (though I do record the numbers for reference). I want to be on new track if I'm bashing. It's OK repeating stuff if I'm going A-B for a reason, like visiting family - hope you know where I'm coming from. Different goals at the end of the day, and you've achieved some of yours today which is all that matters for you. :D:D

If I'm not busy that Saturday, let me know which ex-Wigan train time you'll be getting and I'll buy a return to Liverpool for an impromptu forum meet (or you can chuck me off at Bryn if you get bored of me haha). :P

Glad you managed to find 158960 at long last :)

Was good you got two winners. Was probably a wise choice not going into Cornwall. There is as good a chance it would be in Bristol next time and save you a load of money. You also avoided the voyager! But imagine my pain! I have to used them if I want to go anywhere other than London or via London.

A good day out there. Great news about 158960... looks like I didn't remain in the 'has-units-Techniquest-doesn't-have' club for long! ;)

Tech, another excellent read. Was pleased to hear that you enjoyed your trip to good old Brizzle and that two of your GW units managed to fall by the wayside. Those last two will no doubt bug you now. Shame though that you did not find 43002; perhaps next time you frequent GW territory.

Me and Blindtraveller are on that bash.

Oh yes indeed, nostalgia tripping is good fun!

I'll detail our planned onward move in my TPP Mode thread soon when we've worked it out. Will be nice to put another face to a forum user's name!

Very true, would have been a lot of effort! I really feel sorry for you having to suffer Voyagers unless you're going to London!

Indeed, we all have rather different goals which makes it a more interesting scene!

Glad you still enjoyed the read!

It was in that club for far too long! 390114 is now my most irritating gap, and it won't be long until those two GWR 150s join that club!

Thanks, a good visit to Brissle indeed. I only went as I was informed those two GWR units were out. I owe someone a large amount of pints for their help this year!

Yep those 150s will become major irritances soon enough no doubt, but they will get dealt with next year no doubt. If I can get them gone before then, obviously that's a nice bonus. They are two of 14 units left to get (the other being 165s and 166s, 6 of each) to clear the massive GWR fleet, when I accomplish that a celebration will certainly be required!

Of course, that's assuming no more 150/9s get created...

In which case I'm still in the 'has-units-Techniquest-doesn't-have' club, and you still have reason to be very jealous ;)

As am I! 390114 is just so dud ;)

Ah but what you guys are forgetting is that I've had all the others ;) Some of them I had when they were 390/0s as well ;)

Need I point out I've had all of the XC, ATW and LM fleets? ;)

I was thinking that too kris. Im trying to think, if I'm in the, I've got what techs not club, however, I very much doubt I'll come close to many on here let alone tech, if this hobby was akin to a game of top trumps(theres one for fishquinn and rg177 to google:lol::lol:) and tech sat opposite, I'd may as well hand my cards to him and say, congratulations, there you go, you've won:lol::lol::lol:

Good point...

I havn't even cleared 1 company yet, let alone 3! I am guessing that Chiltern will come first though (as I have already had all cats, I need 2 168/3s and several 165s).

I blame working with lots of women at work for my bitchiness there

Running out of required trains? Not in my lifetime, I still need tons of stuff across the country!

As for Top Trumps, never played it personally but believe it or not you can still buy the game in its various forms. I think we sell it in my lot too. If we were doing it on locos, you'd win without a doubt, DMUs and EMUs I'd kick some rear

As far as Pendo xiv is concerned, I'm also Spartacus! Not sure where or when, but its in the book
As is D1032, sampled in August 1971 when I was five. Being elderly is sometimes useful when playing trainupmanship ;)

Top Trumps brings back memories. 1975, English Cars - and losimg your Speedy, powerful amd high revving Aston Martin to the extra weight of a Rolls Royce. Good fun wbich passed the time whilst the girls were mooning over The Bay City Rollers...

Have you had their two 121s which work the Aylesbury to Princes line? Good luck with the 165ss.

The only TOC I've cleared for haulage/units is Hull Trains!

Was thinking of you yesterday when I got 390115 from Lime Street to Crewe. Ooooh close. Ha ha. Sure you will get 114 soon enough. :D

For clearing classes you need to get yourself to Bratislava, can have both the 381s on an out and back to the first stop in about twelve minutes, class cleared!

My earliest records for haulage date back to about 1972/1973 when I was in my early teens. Managed to clear all my 50s for mega miles (lowest was 50029 Renown at 2,900). I also managed to clear several traditional loco classes such as 33, 45, 46, 73, 86 & 87. Admittedly I missed any 33s & 73s that never made it to TOPS numbers but deffo had the rest.

As for DMUs & EMUs, I have cleared many classes (and within that every member for a minimum of 10 miles) but there's not a single TOC that's completely clear on any basis as there are odd awkward pockets of resistance loitering in far flung corners of networks (e.g. Southern where I need 2*171 outright and 1*313 for 10 miles)

Top Trumps brings back memories. 1975, English Cars - and losing your Speedy, powerful and high revving Aston Martin to the extra weight of a Rolls Royce. Good fun which passed the time whilst the girls were mooning over The Bay City Rollers...

Mrs KJ - whose a few years senior to Baron Roebuck - still swoons over the BCRs. But at least is better than a lot of the dire rubbish turned out today. (rapidly retreats to bunker ...)

Darn! I forgot the 121s! Still, it's a good reason to do the chiltern 165s for a day two. I was hoping to get one of the 165s today but both working out of Leamington (026 on the Birmingham shuttle and 016 on the Stratford shuttle) were duds.

Tech: Clearing XC isn't really something to be proud of ;)

I forgot to boast that I've cleared HT's fleet!

It may not be much to boast about quality wise, but it was a big job so I still feel proud of clearing XC

I've started recreating my lists of requirements this week, the amount I still need is just shocking. Only 20 more 150s to go though!

I guess Cross Country would be one of the hardest to clear as everything is so spread out. As for me, Cross Country would be cleared when I finally get all of the 170s (the trams are all done).

Are 18 of those 20 150s Northern?

Just stand on New St for 24 hours and you would see the lot apart from any out of service.

Just out of interest, what was your highest and whats your current overall mileage on 50s?!

Thanks

Ooops, a stray 9 got into my original post. Renown is sat on 2,900. Original post corrected.

Highest mileage 50 is 50043 Eagle and class total is around 40,000 odd miles. But highest EMU class is the 319s where it's more in the region of 150-160,000 miles. The vast bulk of that mileage being accrued on the daily commute.

Tech: Clearing XC isn't really something to be proud of ;)

I'll second that. My hatred of the dreaded Vomit Comets explains why I still need 15 XC 220/221 and a further ten are still on the lists as they are sub ten miles. My total required units comes to about 220 but there's stacks more on the lists on account of the 10 mile barrier not being breached. The total would be significantly lower if I did not insist on doing all the 390/1s, 378s and 458s again because they have got an extra filler car or two.

Correct, which has made me want to head north and do a long series of leaps to get them in the book!

Lowest TOC requirements for me are:

Grand Central (1) - 180112
Hull Trains (4) - the entire fleet!
Tippex (10) - 6 x 185, 4 x 350
VTEC (14) - 5 x 91, 9 x 43
Northern (17) - 3 x 150, 13 x 319, 322484

XC will be in there somewhere - 10 vomiters & some turbos.

Is the Ravenglass & Eskdale a "TOC"? - went a few years ago and got most if not all locos in... ;)
