Judith Edge Kits 4mm/OO Gauge

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how Easy/Intermediate/Advanced/Very Hard one of these kits are?

I've never really built a kit be it white metal or brass so was wondering how easy it is.

If anyone has the instruction on how to build one that's they are willing to email I'd be grateful.

I've built a Judith Edge Ruston 0-4-0 diesel shunter kit, in fact it was the first non-plastic kit that I built. Assuming that you're competent with a soldering iron and you've built plastic kits in the past you shouldn't have any problems with something similar.

Have you already bought a kit? I purchased the Ruston kit from DC Models and collected it from an exhibition where they had a stand. By turning up early on the Saturday morning (i.e. as the doors opened) they had a bit of time to talk me through building the kit. Incidentally the kit makes into a very nice model and I'm equally pleased with it.

I haven't bought one as yet as it works out about £50 inc P&P so I was kind of getting a feel of the requirement in ability to make one.

The only real kits I made over the years was a Dapol Class 04 that got a litle damaged by an assisting 10 year old and recently the Peco HST shed. That turned out fine.

Soldering I am OK with, I'm not the best but am OK.

A friend is going to scan the instructions to the Class 01 over to me so I can get a feel for it and work from there. I think I am going to do what you did and collect ffrom a MR exhibition and ask a few of my infamous daft questions.

On seeing the price, especially when you add in motor, gear box and wheels initially I did think "how much"!!. However, having constructed a few plastic wagon kits which run really well I convinced myself that I'd be ok.

If you have any doubts built a couple of wagon kits first and see how you go.

Going back to what you said about youngsters, with regard to my expensive Bachmann loco's I always have to have one eye on my enthusiastic Grandson when he stays over. However the trusty little Ruston is pretty much bomb proof!
