What was the cause?

Reading in between the lines, there was a possession in Neasden Depot over the weekend which resulted in the trains being stabled off traction current for the duration. When powered back up they succumbed to numerous defects.

This is fairly common in cold icy weather conditions when you try to "cold start" a train that's been powered down and stabled with no heating etc. It's quite common for this to happen first thing on Boxing Day if Christmas Day had been cold, although nowadays I think they leave the juice on.
