As for more deserving? Well they are both historically cities. Just one is older than the other. So wouldnt say more deserving no.

History as far as city status goes. St Asaph is historically a city. Is Chelmsford? I may be wrong, but i never thought it had been a city.

Prior to the Diamond Jubilee award, Chelmsford had never been a city.

It maybe should be pointed out that Leicester in terms of population is the tenth largest in the country, only just behind Manchester; and in terms of area is twelfth largest, bigger than Stoke, Cardiff, Coventry and Bradford.

To outsiders without reference to the relevant statistics, who would have thought that population-wise, Leicester is quite a long way ahead of Nottingham. Derby has only been a city since 1977, and Leicestershire has more universities than any immediately surrounding counties (!). Our two northern neighbours both only came onto the centre stage very recently.

Leicestershire's ancient history is not something that gets brandied a lot in the national media. Not many people will be aware that Leicester was a city even in Roman times, then lost it, then regained it, pretty much what St Asaph went through. Not many people would be aware that Loughborough's annual street fair dates back to 1228 and had never been interrupted rain or shine.

It is fascinating sometimes when you delve into a city's past.

Leicester are a "decent team".

They have won what is currently the Championship the second highest number of times (behind only Manchester City), have reached 4 FA Cup Finals and also finished 2nd in the League before now. Most importantly, they have won the League Cup three times.

Until 2008, they had also never played outside the top two divisions.

Considering there is only one such club though, that's somewhat difficult to beat. Even my team, the top division's most regular attendees, have only been on their current run since 1954 - and even then almost blew it (twice) during the 90s.

Leicester are still a decent team though. No shame in following them. (Unless sacking Sven counts.)

Having lived here for three years I hate Leicester, but it is definately a city, far moreso than Wolverhampton or even Derby. It's incredibly run down though. DMU are going a long way to fix that but not really far enough and they aren't treading out of their zone; there are some horrible areas of the city. Also the bus service is awful.

No, no, no. You got that one all wrong. Arriva didn't cut provision of evening services on a majority of its routes to finish at 1900. Arriva are awful, but nowhere near the bottom of the barrel in our fine city.

I am not a Wimbledon fan, but people seem to be forgetting that MK Dons have no right to be considered a football team. They can never be forgive and a pox on anyone in Milton Keynes who goes to their matches. For that reason alone, MK should never be a city.
