During the blockade at Castleton between Manchester and Leeds starting today, I wanted to travel Shaw - Rochdale - Leeds - Headingley on the 21st, but if the dreaded RRB is to be avoided it will now have to be Shaw - Manchester Victoria - Leeds - Headingley

Not a significant time penalty, but considerably more expensive.

Road travel generally is to be avoided due the M62 closure associated with these works, which will likely make local roads chaotic (I guess we’ll see evidence of this tomorrow with M62 closure #1)?

Normally a fully flexible itinerary is available at £11.70 comprising of:-
Shaw - Rochdale Metrolink Z4 travelcard at £1.90
Rochdale - Todmorden CDR at £3.70
Todmorden - Headingley CDR at £6.10

It will now be almost doubled to £23.00
Shaw - Manchester Victoria Metrolink Z1-Z4 travelcard at £4.90
Manchester - Victoria - Headingley CDR at £18.10

These are prices for travel with a Two Together Railcard.

Any money saving tips that avoid road travel most welcome as there doesn’t appear to be splits available that I could find that still provide complete flexibility.

Assuming there's two of you splitting the cost.

Shaw to Marsden, Uber roughly £15 each way. Total £30

Marsden to Headingley £6.05 each CDR with two together. Total £12.10

So roughly £21.05 each, saves a little on the £23 each and misses the whole journey via Manchester.

Yes it's more road travel but it's not a RRB. Uber prices checked at 21.00.tonight.
