On FGW Journey Check this morning, Mon 8 Aug 2016, 0630:
Cancellations to services between Moreton-In-Marsh and Manchester Oxford Road
Due to a fault with the signalling system between Moreton-in-Marsh and Manchester Oxford Road all lines are blocked.
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes. Disruption is expected until 07:30 08/08.

This must have been an enormous Fault !!!

New Section on GWR Journey Check tonight:-

"Significant Disruption"

It is to report that the A34 is blocked between Oxford and Didcot due to a serious accident. Rail Replacement buses will divert but will add a considerable amount of time to journey.

(Line blocked due Engineering work)

It's a Quirk of the system - when you post a General Advisory message to Joirney Check (that is not a train alteration or a line problem) - Journey Check files it as a "Significant Disruption" - there's no way to override this in Tyrell, it's simply the default for any message it doesn't already have a template for.

As for whether it was a good thing to post or not, if the info controller knew buses were being delayed then why not post it - Replacement buses don't track in CIS so that's not going to tell the public anything, it's a way of forewarning them of additional delay to journey.

Interesting - I've not used that feature before! Might have to have a nosy. Does it just get sent to the usual Journeycheck Gateway?

It's a standard Tyrell General Incident Freeform message, with "External" selected when you choose who to dispatch the message to. I have no idea how it interacts with JC on a technical level, just that by selecting external for those messages they show up on JC as "Significant Disruption" - I discovered this by accident by accidentally posting a message on Tyrell for traincrew as external and it being spotted by eagle-eyed twitterati - cue hasty call to nexus alpha to get it taken off!

I was just on the 0540 CDF to MAN, which was held for about 18 minutes coming into Shrewsbury. Announcement was "waiting for platform clearance", Journey check says "due to an earlier train fault". I suppose that could follow, if there was a train stuck at Shrewsbury.

We then ran straight through to Crewe, missing out Wem, Whitchurch and Nantwich. Hard luck for anyone wanting to board there, or alight for that matter.

Glad I made my 0843 VT connection to Liverpool, or I'd have missed out on this rather tasty bacon roll!

I'm sure there's been a thread before but can't find it. ATW Journey Check tonight states 2252 Birmingham to Crewe (via Stafford) will be diverted via Shrewsbury and will not call at Stafford.

I've just seen this post, this is intriguing because London Midland cannot send its 350s via Shrewsbury, unless they were hauled by a locomotive?

This is an ATW train, booked Class 158 haulage, nothing to do with LM or 350s.

1M96 1716 Cardiff to Holyhead WAG has terminated at Newport tonight. ATW Joutney Check and Twitter say cause under investigation. RTT states "Traincrew issue". I have posted this here because it is about Journey Check rather than the ongoing challenge re cancellations.
Loco ran light to Chester to re-start train there.

Have learnt from another Forum, that train ran DOO (not officially) from Cardiff to Newport. Somehow conductor left behind.

Just wondering if anybody can make any sense of this re Health and Safety :-x:-x

[14:05 Shrewsbury to Swansea due 18:14
14:05 Shrewsbury to Swansea due 18:14 has been previously delayed and is expected to be 8 minutes late at Llanwrtyd but is expected to be on time from Pantyffynnon.
Catering is not available between Llanwrtyd and Swansea.
This is due to a train requiring maintenance at a depot.
Additional Facilities Information
Catering is unavailable due to Health & Safety at Work Act restrictions related to catering trolleys and the prevailing stormy weather.]

Appears to be 150 working although booked 153

Possibly worried it may be too windy to push the trolley down the platform to board/alight the train without risk of it blowing over and injuring the member of staff??

Has Dorris arrived early into South Wales? ;)

The trolley, together with the traincrew, change over with the train in the opposite direction at Llandrindod Wells and involves pushing across barrow crossing to opposite platform. Could be ?

I'm still trying to make sense of this one on ATW's website this morning:-

2104 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly

https://www.journeycheck.com/arrivatrainswales/

Also, I'm amused their powers of clairvoyance enable them to know a train 15 hours ahead will be a minute late due to a problem under investigation, yet do not extend to saying what that problem will be!

21:04 Birmingham International to Manchester Piccadilly due 00:44 will be delayed at Manchester Piccadilly and is expected to be 1 minute late.
This is due to a problem currently under investigation.
Further Information
Warrington Bank Quay will be served by road transport (Springfield).
Chester 2345
Helsby 0005
Frodsham 0010
Runcorn East 0025
Warrington Bank Quay 0045
Earlestown 0110*
Newton le Willows 0120*
Mancehster Piccadilly 0200*
*Set Down Only.

Looking at RealtimeTrains, this service is flagged as a variation (VAR), which suggests to me that JourneyCheck has simply miscategorised the reason for the schedule change, and added it to its public website list.

Understand from Journey Check last Monday that Warrington Bank Quay station has closed before the train is due, brought about by it's later re-timing in connection with Engineering Work.

Comparing the schedules, todays train is running at exactly the same times as last week, the only difference is it is not stopping at Warrington Bank Quay. Not sure why the station was open at 0010 last week but not at 0010 this week?

But it didn't stop at Warrington last week whatever RTT says. The missing of the stop was being posted on Journey Check all last week.

I see the gremlins have taken up residence again in the ATW Journey-Check!!

https://www.journeycheck.com/arrivatrainswales/

The Manchester-North Wales LHCS [0738 ex Chester; 0950 & 1650 ex Manchester Piccadilly and 1305 ex Holyhead], will not call at Patricroft due to a problem currently under investigation.

How long will it take them to discover it never has?

Due to the Northern strike ATW are calling at Patricroft today.

That said, I don't think the 67s were scheduled to.

Ah - then, my apologies to ATW

Originally all ATW services on that line were going to stop at Patricroft, and timetables were changed to show that. Then it was altered later on to remove the 67 operated services.

I've tweeted ATW several times now to try and get an answer but given up as I was banging my head against a brick wall. They kept replying by asking silly questions such as to which train I was travelling. They just did not seem to be able to grasp the query despite spelling it out. Last reply said the answer was ..... just quoted the Trains as shown in Journey Check

Have got to the bottom of it after reading Northern Rails site where it stated that some other TOCs trains will be making additional stops. Patricroft is being used by ATW, where they don't stop normally, but realised after that LHCS unable to call. ATW have typically published nothing. Discovered following somebody tweeting to ask why 1430 Manchester to Milford Haven leaving Carmarthen 14 minutes later so, a look at RTT found that it was calling additionally at Holmes Chapel and Sandbach. ATW couldn't giving a reply other than perhaps Engineering Work, glitch or "must be some reason".
There were tweets this morning complaining of a lot of misleading info on CIS Boards on route between Chester and Manchester.

I don't think TOC Twitter operators have any more access to up-to-the-minute information than the general public do. Bit of a waste of time really.

Thank-you for your detective work! :D

Given, then, that ATW were calling additionally at Patricroft today [and that their Journey-Check didn't say they were, only the ones which weren't], why were the LHCS unable to call? Was it to do with platform length, or sighting due to the curve, or what?

Unfortunately, I can't answer that one myself and only guess.

Strange ones on GWR Journey Check today. Local Penzance trains shown terminating at and starting from St Erth. At a guess, they were shown as not running beyond in the system for some reason so Journey Check having to show them as cancelled and replacement services to and from Penzance. Reason given as problem under investigation.

One new one today with ATW affecting 1434 Holyhead to Cardiff saying running with 2 coaches instead of 3 due to the original unit failing while WIFI being fitted. (ATW installing WIFI on 150, 158 and 175 fleets)
