Journey break enquiry

I'm travelling to London from Preston next Saturday 10th May, returning Sunday 11th.

As an enthusiast, I'd like to change in Birmingham on the way down to travel on the 14.43 from Moor Street for some loco-haulage. Is such a journey break acceptable on a standard Off-Peak return?

The only restrictions I can see are an inability to arrive at Marylebone prior to 11.30: but this wouldn't be a problem.

That's fine and you may arrive Marylebone at any time, as the off peak restriction applies Monday to Friday only.

I think your thread title is a little misleading, then?
Because you're asking about breaking your journey on a single ticket, not a single journey made up from multiple tickets ("split tickets").

It should be noted that there are a few staff who don't know this is valid and may cause you an issue, which I've occasionally experienced right back to BR days when using Chiltern on what are to some just WCML tickets. Thus it may be worth getting an itinerary for this at the specified fare, either when you book or on nationalrail.co.uk, printing it out and taking it with you (or as a PDF or something) so you can show them.

You should be able to do this easily enough by putting "via High Wycombe" in.

And, just for completeness, if you're just changing trains in Birmingham on a through journey which is on a permitted route, this isn't even a break of journey either, but we know what you mean by your original question anyway!
