Absolutely ... would recommend to anyone ... 45 mph feels like 100 in the deep tube stock of 1938 (i think) Go there very quickly before the stock changes and possible track upgrade because it cant last much longer !!!
About half the Ayr - Stranraer line is Jointed Bullhead rail and jointed flat bottom rail. A good chunk of the Bullhead rail is in the process of being relaced with new Bullhead rail at the moment. its 80mph line speed from Dunragit to almost Stranraer (75mph for the 156s obviously). The 2 month forced closure of the line south of Ayr station due to the safety exclusion zone around the Station Hotel allowed Network Rail the opportunity to bring forward alot of track and lineside work and complete it months ahead of schedule. If you've not been down for a while you'll notice massive changes to the lineside with hundreds, if not thousands of trees cut down!
