I'm trying to find out a little more about John Turner Alcock who was in partnership with Jonas Gregson until 3 May 1872 and had been for some years. Together they were jointly awarded the contract to build the Heckmondwike and Thornhill branch line for the L&Y early August 1866. The contract award was listed as Gregson, Alcock & Company.
With regards to this branch line. it was I believe a little over 2 miles long and had just one station at Ravensthorpe which opened 1 July 1869. Shortly after the line opened, ads appear advertising an auction at Ravensthorpe (then listed as being near Dewsbury) selling off equipment used on the build. Now the thing is, sometimes in the ad, the auctioneer (Mr. Adam Jessop) mentions Gregson and Company, sometimes Gregson, Alcock & company.
Now I don't want to add 2 and 2 together and get 5, but it leaves me wondering about the Padiham to Rpse Grove contract (Jan 1871) - The L&Y state it was awarded to Gregson & Company, could the "& Company" have included John Alcock? as their partnership wasn't dissolved at that time?
