Job interview S and T 5 designer

Evening All,

I’m currently applying for an S and T 5 position, I know the interview process is two stages eg personal interview and technical interview. I already have some information for the technical, but just wondering if anybody can remember any typical questions that my be asked in the technical interview that’s all, many thanks

S&T 5, not role clarity band 5? Anyway, I can't say I've ever done a designer interview as such, so I can't tell you typical questions. What I would say though is:

Have you read the Design Handbook to the point that you know what the common symbols on scheme plans and circuit drawings are, understand the various types of drawings and control tables, and have a rough idea of the design process?
Have you read the Principles Handbook so you know all the basics well?
Have you had a stab at the layout type questions from the IRSE exam samples?

Unless they are asking for something very specific, I would have thought that would give you a decent shot at giving a sensible answer to most of what they're likely to ask. Wouldn't be surprised if they chuck something electrical in but that could be anything. Good luck

Cheers thanks for that, I was heading down that route, the subject is vast and they could ask anything, to narrow down the search abit is very helpful thanks

The subject is vast and they could ask you anything, but, unless they're asking for specific experience of particular equipment, asking a lot of questions pulled from Appendix V of the WhatsitLock1048 Applications Manual (Part 4) seems harsh. I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if they give you a design scenario then ask you to explain what you would do and why. They might be more interested in your thought process and ability to justify trade offs you've made. That's just a guess though.
