I like 314's!

I've never knowingly been on one, so I can't really say, but they look cramped and rather depressing inside.

Well I like them too. Ridden in one once, alright they were. Although I cannot remember which one it was at all, most annoyingly!

They do look not bad, I'll admit and maybe they are comfy. (F)SR really should have given them a nicer interior, though.

Would you do a refurb upon taking over trains with only 5-6 years of expected service? (FSR took over SR in 2004, 314's expected to be replaced in 2010ish.)

Good point. They really should have been done by ScotRail, though.

They have received modifications which should last them up til 2009.
