Job Interview coming up

Well i'm now moving on, got an interview with First Scotrail based at Edinburgh for a trainee guard so probably moving north of the border. Anyone got any tips or advice?

He's working from Edinburgh, so he won't see many of them. The same applies for Queens Park and High Street. Hence they now add Glasgow to the tickets eg High Street Glasgow...:cry:

And then there are the lovely routing questions.. If I am at Livingston South, and have just missed the train t Glasgow journey time 60 minutes). I run to the other platform to just make the train to Edinburgh. I plan to change at Haymarket onto the Edinburgh-Glasgow Queen St via Falkirk High service (total journey time 1h45ish). Is my Livingston South-Glasgow ticket valid.#

Answer 'No' but it takes most guards a good 5 minutes to work out how much extra you have top pay, and I paid different amounts each time.

There are also interesting ticketing anomalies. Such as the peak fares between 1630 and 1830 on FSR services except of journeys wholly within the SPT area, which doesn't have an evening peak thus CDR's are valid anytime after 0930 M-F and anytime at weekends.

Get that map out and browse around the FSR site at the different routes in the network! Get a bit familiar with the network at least!

However, if you've managed to work as a TTI on the SVR for some time, you should do just fine.

And think of the exciting traction you can sign; 156, 158, 170, 322, maybe 318 if really lucky... and maybe (rumours permitting, 180!). Also the EMU's for Airdrie/Bathgate from 2010.

Mk2 and 3 on sleeper only - which are not normal duties for Edinburgh based guards, as I understand it has its own staffing rosta due to the lodging turns etc.

i'm sure it's fsr guards, Fort William between Fort William and Rannoch or BoO sometimes, then Glasgow guard between Rannoch and Dalmuir, then Edb between Dalmuir and Edinburgh, then Edinburgh guard for the trip to Euston then over at the premier travel inn return next shift. Not sure on the Inv portion or Abd portion. Glasgow is done by Glasgows and the leg to London, then the Edb shuttles and 90 done by Edb, drivers are EWS tho apart from on the Fort Bill bit.

If it's anything like Southern, Heathrow Express or London Underground, they won't give a hoot about how much knowledge you have. All they want is someone who has good customer service, can learn fast and has a slight interest in the job they are/will be doing. :roll:

Good luck. I'm sure you'll love Edinburgh as much as I do, if not more. There are lots of good workings from a fantastic station at Edinburgh, so you'll get good rides all the time (of course, you'll have to work too).

Fantastic stock (you're lucky not to get 320s or 314s), great routes, a generally friendly people and a decent TOC in a great country: Could do far worse.

Good luck Mark. Scotland's a nice place, lived up just outside Aberdeen for 2 years, Stonehaven to be exact. Didn't get a chance to go to Edinburgh though. You'll like it up there. Good luck.

TOCs are after as much revenue as possible these days and on-train staff are likely to find themselves monitored for the amount of money they take. If you take less than the average for that turn you could have to explain why. Saying that it's because you're pretty relaxed may not win you many brownie points. ad:

Haha yeah anno but what i was on about was i'm not the sort to search every single validity code in the book for something stupid, stuff like Joy54 scams and totally stupid things i'll have a clock eye for. It's a job not a hobby so people will be looking for scams, just the accent i'll have to pick up on.
