I am about to undertake Assessment 2 for a trainee driver role and was wondering if anyone happens to know at what point a TOC typically obtains references for the position?

May seem like a strange question but it feels like its been an eternity since I first submitted my application and completed online tests. I would have thought it more logical for a company to seek references before allowing someone to take up a slot at an assessment.

Any ideas anyone?

It varies but it seems to be around the end of the process when you get offered the job subject to medical and your references.

I for one wouldn't want it earlier because I wouldn't want to upset my current employer only to fail at the assessments or the dm interview.

Benno79 has quoted one of the main reasons why references ar eonly normally requested once someone has been through the recruitment process and received a conditional job offer.

Another reason is the time taken and cost in staff time to call for references for everyone involved in assessments and interviews.
