The Marriage Act of 1929 increased the legal age at which one could marry in the UK to 16 and in the 18th century it was legal for a person of legal age from a wealthy family to marry another of any age.

Additionally when disclosing my experience above I neglected to add that the age of consent was still 18 at the time.

In the end all this demonstrates is how societys attitudes to what is acceptable have evolved over time, which as per our system of parliamentary Legislature is then broadly reflected in our laws.

Evidently a view not shared in all of Europe :p

Is someone on here really suggesting someone is a pedo based on their looks, their cloths, charitable work and the way they speak? Ive never heard such twaddle and I'm just glad you are not on a jury

How many of the 10's of Police officers or teachers convicted over the past couple of years fell into those categories??...not too many I would suspect.

Last I heard convictions were based on ACTUAL evidence, not someones opinion or personal criteria.

You obviously didn't read my posts properly, please go back and try again.

Well I can only give my opinion based on experience and after working with the Mets Polices Sapphire Command for over a year, and been to court on a charge related to Jimmy Savilles, with Klambert you can see how and why we both have cause for concern from our own "experience".

Second to that, as pointed out in a previous post that doesn't go to say sex offenders fit into one category of looks and personality, the only thing they will share are being "Vulnerable Opportunists" if given the chance.

I did, and what you're saying is still twaddle.

What I'm saying is sex offenders share similar traits, and Jimmy Saville, displays these traits. I can spot it a mile off, due to my own personal experiences Not the mass media's. The key word here is TRAITS! Not whole personalities.

Bloomin eck sometimes its like explaining to a bunch of 5 year olds who require the exact definition sometimes.

Anyway I'm off too bed, so I wont be replying for a bit.

Can you point to any research (preferably academic led or otherwise natural) to demonstrate that?

Yes, that may be the only good thing that emerges from all of this.

I would also say that as well as closure, an investigation will hopefully uncover offenders still alive and perhaps prevent someone getting away with it as long as he is alleged to have done in future.

That is, if he is found to be guilty.

Agreed. I have re read the post in question and is still coming across as horse muck.

I guess Bono, Geldof and Winfrey are also closet offenders.

Why not every person who is male while we're at it, since I understand that the mass majority of sex offenders are male :)

A Swedish politician pretty much said that year or two ago. We're all potential rapists, if given the opportunity (or words to that effect).

There is so much that is dangerously wrong there that one truly worries. Sure, some sex offenders have some traits in common, but, not everyone with those traits is (or has a propensity to being) a sex offender, and neither does every sex-offender have any or all of those traits. If anyone could spot a sex-offender simply by observing his personality, we would know about it. The same is true of any action by anyone. You are actually trying to make generalisations from your own experience (two? Ok, more than a lot of people, but not enough to make anyone an expert) and that is as malign as the Sun making their generalisations.

If you spotted that Jimmy Savile was a paedo why did you never say anything before.

Also can you please list any other people that fit these traits so that I can make sure me and my family can steer clear of them.

Psychologists use similar methodology to identify sex offenders by observing their personality traits in order to make a diagnosis.

PS my source of information has worked as a nurse in various psychiatric institution's, Broadmoor for one example, alongside paedophiles and sex offenders.

As seen on Yahoo Answers. Perfectly demonstrates how fickle/easily led the public can be

Rhyaddan said:
Let's put it to the general public, shall we?

Britain, October 2011: "Of course he was good! He did loads of charity work, innit? Shame on you, Sickipedia and internet trolls like Rhyaddan for cracking all those tasteless jokes about a national treasure!"

Britain, October 2012: "Yeah, he was bad, all right. I knew there was sumfink wrong wiv 'im all along. Let's dig up his corpse and burn it in a wicker man!"

Not quite accurate. They observe characteristics in patients in order to make a diagnosis - they do not use these techniques to "identify sex offenders", because, when they come to them as patients, they are already offenders.

Exactly - nurses observe, but not diagnose in such cases

"My mate from the pub" is not usually a recognised reference when writing in Scientific Journals (although it might be good enough for the tabloid press).

I'm not sure what standard is accepted on this site, but I think it'll have to be better than that...

You are like many other people and just jumping on the bandwagon.

You have decided that he displayed all the traits of a paedo only after others had raised it yet these traits are so obvious to you that you can spot them a mile off.

If they were so obvious to you why did it never come to you previously?

Indeed. I wonder if that have heard of evidence based practice?

For a start I took two Paedos to court recently and someone I know worked in a line of 'care' work which dealt with these people.

The CPS took two 'paedos' to court.

I appreciate you have dealt with people convicted of similar offences that Sir Jimmy Savile has been accused of, (and so have, I'm sure others) however this does not give you carte blanche to say that someone is ''guilty as f***'' when you have not seen all the evidence, and that includes evidence for the defence.

Dicey's 'Rule of Law' talks about the presumption of innocence. In the UK, this means someone is innocent until proven guilty by a court.
No-one else, but a court. Whether Sir Jimmy is or isn't guilty can be debated by the media (free media and all that) but what the media say does not convict him of the crime, nor does it exonerate.

And as for this ''classic paedo presentation'' nonsense, is exactly that, nonsense. The fact is no two anythings are the same. No two rail staff are the same. No two police officers are the same. No two teachers are the same. No two paedophiles are the same either.

There is no 'presentation' that makes someone, or even indicates that someone is a paedophile, except if that 'presentation' is committing indecent acts on children or vulnerable people.

I echo the request from Mr Spock, that as you are such a paedophile expert, please let me know of other public figures that are also paedophiles so I can steer clear of them. And if you could look through my friends list on Facebook as well, I'd appreciate it.

Better safe than sorry.

I certainly wouldn't be able to tell a sexual predator just by looking at one. I also wonder how we define a sexual predator. What troubles me is the term "paedo" seems to be banded about all too often these days.

For instance the sickening comments left on Jeremy Forrests youtube videos. The teacher who legged it to france with a pupil recently. A gross breach of professional trust, yes! Complete stupidity, yes! But paedophile, monster, child abducter?? No.

Megan Stammers was not dragged off the street against her will. I remember being a fifteen year old, and i dare say i drove my parents to despair a few times. I met my first love at 15, he was 18. I had to leave him when my dad left the navy and moved back from cornwall to sheffield. To cut a long story short i decided to "wag" school and jump on a train...

I went back to cornwall and stayed there for two nights before i realised that i was putting my parents through hell. I went back home with my tail between my legs, and was grounded for at least six months! I thought i was doing the right thing then, and even now i don't regret it. But my ex could have been in serious trouble, he was classed as being an adult and myself a minor. He could have been labelled in the same way Jeremy Forrest has.

Then you have the vile people who traffic children, the ones who place themselves in a position where they can abuse children, snatch them off the street etc etc.

Its the loose terms in which this label is banded around that worries me. Not so long ago a man in Wales was stabbed to death after rumours spread that he was a danger to children...with no truth in the allegations, infact it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, and this is when it becomes dangerous to stereo type.

I wasn't attacking klambert personaly in my last post, i was mearly trying to point out the dangers of classing what someone is just by looking/judging Mr Saviles behaviour and clothes choices.

Good post and the bit about the teacher is dead right, he was misguided and very stupid but certainly no paedophile.
This morning I see Dave Lee Travis has been accused of touching a couple of radio presenters 35 years ago. Unfortunately he will now be lumped in with Savile even if he's innocent it's already too late he's now been tainted by the media.

Thank you. The latest is Mr Savile was a "necrophiliac" and was inapropriate towards corpses.

Oh god.

Doesn't anybody else find it ironic that your source has to respect patient confidentiality but yet you seem to know quite a bit about the people your source deals with? Sounds like a case of: "I shouldn't be telling you this but...." :|

Sad but true.
The "it says it in the paper so it must be true," concept is precisely why I take anything newspapers say with a generous helping of salt. I'm talking large quantities here, a couple of tons at least, probably enough to fill a skip.
