Talking of Labour I see they have appointed a new Shadow Transport Secretary, Jim McMahon. Anyone know anything about him?

OLDHAM West and Royton MP Jim McMahon has been appointed as Shadow Secretary of State for Transport in newly-elected Labour leader Keir Starmer’s shadow cabinet.

He will take the lead on the Labour Party’s transport policy and scrutinise Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.

Speaking after his appointment the Mr McMahon said: “I’m delighted and humbled to join the shadow cabinet and thankful to Keir for the opportunity. This is an exciting time to serve our movement, I can’t wait to get started with Labour’s transport team and build upon the work of my predecessor Andy McDonald.”

A former Oldham councillor with a strong belief in devolution because central government has poor local understanding etc. Backed Starmer and Rayner, also gets on well with Nandy.

Is he pro-rail?
He is used to bad rail service provision and complaining about it so hard to say!

Not knowing the pacers were departing and the solution of "let Andrew Burnham sort it out" doesn't necessarily bode well.

Pro HS2 and better public transport (e.g. Manchester bus regulation), slightly anti-London and well aware that investment cases for many local transport schemes are very poor in much of the UK.
