This is certainly one of the odder threads I’ve encountered lately. It’s literally the very essence of a non-story, with certain people trying very hard to make it into a story. I’ll leave it at that.

Indeed - EXCLUSIVE: man travels on train

What relevance does that have?

A poster said that “going around without security isn’t really an option”. You said the Queen can manage it. I pointed out that’s not the case. The Queen most certainly does have security, everywhere she goes. Even on a train.

It’s simply plain wrong for people to suggest Corbyn wouldn’t have security arrangements if he ever became prime minister. It’s worrying how people on this thread have such a lack of objectivity.

Exactly. he is a senior politician. I would be very surprised if there wasn't an aide and a security man with him.

Corbyn is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Today we've got the Sunday Express slagging him off and calling him a hypocrite for using a Government (diesel) car, which he was advised to do for security reasons. When he does travel by public transport he gets accused of not trying hard enough to find a seat so the he can stand and make a political point. Anyway, if the right-wing press are to believed then Corbyn is probably the safest man in the UK from being attacked as they still claim that he is a "friend of the IRA / Hezbollah / Hamas / insert just about any terrorist group here...".:s

he is friend of all of those people so he should be safe from them. He might not, however, be safe from the crackpots we seem to be breading in large numbers in this country who seem to take the fact that they disagree with a politicians politics as carte blanche for having a swing ( or worse) at them.

Since Soweto Kinch is a Labour and a Momentum supporter, this does seem to be a publicity stunt of some sorts. Maybe the OP can comment on that since he/she missed the post where D60 first pointed this out :D

B I wasn’t the one who originally implied that the PM travels around in an armoured limousine convoy. I point to you to part of the original post.
But you are the one that claimed it is a 'necessity'. Oxygen is a necessity, water is a necessity, electricity is a necessity for me to post this comment.
Armoured limousines are not a necessity, as shown by the fact that various other Prime Ministers have not always chosen to use them.
So perhaps my “assertion” of security being a necessity isn’t challenged because everyone else also thinks it is, likely based on the fact that even a young MP with only a year in the UK Parliament (yes, I mean Jo Cox) can be violently attacked and killed. The Prime Minister couldn’t afford the risks.
Yet many have.

  1. Care to mention any? Preferably name ones that didn’t live their life in the current political climate that we have now.
  2. I honestly don’t even understand what point you’re trying to make on this whole thread? That security isn’t necessary or something?
  3. The remark about armoured limousines was made as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the original post. I don’t think anybody except you really thought I was suggesting that’s the PMs proffered more of transport, or took the comment with any ounce of sincerity. The whole point of it was about the security of the Prime Minister.

1. Well, AlterEgo named two. David Cameron and Gordon Brown.
2. That the PM doesn't have to travel everywhere by car.

My MP, Grant Shapps, travels most days on a Great Northern train. A Tory on a class 313 with no first class! The shock! No way that'd make social media, unless twisted to say that he has no choice but to travel with the working classes because there is no first class...

I once sat opposite the Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker and discussed on what improvements that should be made to key stations on the route such as staffing, ticket machines and the possibility of either extra or extended services. What's come out of that is the neighbouring station, Brighouse is to be staffed and from May the Leeds to Man Vic service is extended to Southport.
