Most curious, although I'm a bit worried about the fledgling Storks' first flights.

Have watched a lot more now. Over here, such a service would be operated by Voyagers or Turbostars. They may be getting on a bit, but I for one would love to have the British equivalent (86s and MkIIs) back on secondary routes. Still, the contrast with the big, showy TGVs is incredible.

Erm on this video the locomotive (BB 7200) is electric !

France has a much higher coverage of electrification than we have. Besides, applying the usual AXC logic, they would have diesels under the wires.

And that's the whole point.

But what services do XC currently run that could be given over to EMU operation? I would wager it's either none or not very many. Yes it's annoying having to use DEMUs from as far as York to Edinburgh (heck even all the way to Glasgow in some cases!) but unless the DfT and Bombardier pull their collective fingers out and make the panto-fitted Voyager/Meridian happen we're stuck with it.

Now I'm going to go have a lie down having stuck up for XC like that has given me a funny turn...

I do like the French curved "portal" OHL masts, they're very elegant.

They are - maybe those that complain about the visual impact should consider lobbying for something similar.

Though some of the enthusiasts who are against wires don't want them blocking their shots of tEhClAgZ!!!11111
