Looking up train times from Porthmadog to Euston using Fastjp, I was intrigued to see it offering me routes via Bangor and Llandudno Junction, using TrawsCymru buses to reach those stations from Porthmadog (listed as "Rail Replacement" services!). Presumably this is due to TfW integrating these bus services on the rail timetable database (these bus services appear on station departure screens, for example).
So I tried Railforum's ticketing site. Initially, it only offered the expected routings by train from Porthmadog via Machynlleth. However, if I specify via Bangor or via Blaenau, it seems quite happy to sell me the "any permitted route" off-peak return Porthmadog to Euston for those routes. Is a Porthmadog to London ticket really valid via Bangor or Blaenau?
Would my rail ticket be accepted on the bus? Particularly an e-ticket, as there is no way of collecting a paper/card ticket at Porthmadog.
I was aware that TfW were selling through train/bus tickets: Combined rail and TrawsCymru ticket
However, this scheme does not appear to include the T22 service to Blaenau. The T2 Aberystwyth-Bangor service is included in the scheme, but Porthmadog is not listed as one of the places the combined ticket is valid.
It would be very useful if a Porthmadog to London ticket is valid via the North Wales Coast. So you could travel via Bangor on say the outward journey, say if Cambrian services are affected by engineering work that day, but travel back via Machynlleth on a later date when Cambrian services are running normally. Although it would be necessary to purchase the slightly more expensive "any permitted" route ticket to do that, rather than the cheaper "via Birmingham" tickets.

I assume that if you have an itinerary from an accredited retailer, then your ticket must be valid for travel via that route?
So I tried various retailers, looking for the Porthmadog (PTM) to Euston (EUS) "any permitted route" fare:
TFW: offers routes via Blaenau, but not via Bangor
National Rail: offers routes via Blaenau. Various routes offered via Bangor, e.g. Port to Machynlleth, then back by bus through Port to Bangor (!), then by train, but not at the PTM to EUS fare.
Avanti: does not offer routes via either Blaenau or Bangor, but then this rubbish site often fails to find trains via Shrewsbury!
Only Trainsplit seems to find routes via both Bangor and Blaenau at the standard PTM to EUS fare.
