Italy rail strike July 13

My first trip to Italy is planned to start 11/07/14 using FIP coupons. I have read elsewhere that there is a rail strike on 13/07/14 was planning to do lots of regional trains in northern Italy Milano area on this day. Does anybody know if there is a chance the strike may be cancelled. Also are FIP coupons not valid on Trenord services.

Just had an email from Trenord the Italy rail strike is still on from 21.00 12/07/14 to 21.00 13/07/14

In Italy there are protected services which by law have to run even during a strike. The Leonardo Express is completely protected but other lines are only generally only protected at certain times of day or not at all.

Services are not protected at certain times of the day at weekends. I imagine, having been in the area at the time of one of these strikes, that there will be very few services and it is unlikely that the strike will be cancelled.
