The Royal Navy often used to attack coastal sections of the Italian railway system with surface action from submarines. Does anybody have any information showing which part of the route network was susceptible to such attacks, where attacks took place and what trains were attacked ?

There are incredibly few histories available regarding the wartime submarine service, but from those available it would seem that attacking trains with the deck gun was quite popular in WW2. They do not however give much detail of what type of train was attacked.

Not sure that details of what was shelled and when would have been very secret even during the war. As I am sure the Italians would have noticed the incoming shells at the time.
Hence not much point in keeping secret the fact that you had fired them, as it would not have taken a very astute inteligence officer to deduce the existance of a gun, from the arrival of the shells. The number fired caliber and lack of surface ships, then leading him to the idea that a surfaced submarine might have been to blame.
