A friend & his wife are heading to Italy for a week this June. They will be travelling from Pisa airport to Moneglia & Portofino (near Genova) stopping off in the Cinque Terre region. They will be travelling by rail.

Can anyone give me a rough indication of costs and are there any regional passes, or special tickets to consider.

Thanks.

Local trains in IT remain so cheap that any brit-styled worries about sky-high prices are needless. There seems however in main summertime to be a surcharge on local tickets in the 5-earth area. There are NO rover/rangers etc, but TrenItalia does seem still to offer a very well hidden 3 or 5 day pass for ONLY its regional trains, which would cover this. A quick check on the site of trenitlaia will reveal all current prices-as could be expected for about any railplanner anywhere in EURope. An IT speciality is also to charge much more for airport links-but no treni (anymore) to either Pisa or Genova-airpt-in Pisa replaced by a kind of dangle/skytrain or so. Mostly on the 5-6€ range.

They are €29 for 3 days, €49 for 5 days. This is described here in Italian
