It didnt stop at Stoke?

Tonight I was waiting for the 20:25 Virgin service from Stoke on Trent to Manchester but about 3 minutes before the train arrived a virgin pendolino which had passengers on it passed through in the Manchester direction which didn't stop. Ive never seen this pass through before so thought it was obviously on a diversion. Anyone know what it was and why it was diverted? Ive looked on RTT but no info.

As it's looking like there's no reports on this between Colwich Jn and Crewe, this must have been the diverted Pendolino

It's 1H73 1840 London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly.
I can't help with why it was diverted though.

Ok thanks. I looked at trains from Euston and it seems a few trains got no reports between Colwich and Crewe this evening.

If I'm right, there's been signal problems today between Rugeley Trent Valley and Stafford? This could have something to do with it.

There was a points failure at Milford and Brocton Jn just north of Shugborough Tunnel
