When buying split tickets I usually use the forums site or trainsplit but most of my tickets are not split tickets, as that isn't a cheaper option for the majoirt6 of my travel.

Currently I am using trip.com as they offer a 4% discount if you spend £9.99 on their train card. You get up to 90 journeys discounted within one year.

Last Monday I found it wasn't showing a super off-peak ticket I buy but only off-peak tickets.

Had one journey saved in my favourites, which would work, but as that was for a tme, 30 minutes in the past, it defaulted to the next day.

So I purchased my ticket from the ticket vending machine and I didn't get my 4% discount.

I then contacted customer support using the text chat. Eventually they understood what I was on about and said it would be reported to technical support who would get back to me within 24 hours.

I've not heard back of course and now when I do the search between the two stations, it is substituting the first station with another one and still not showing super off-peak fares. It is displaying the first station at the top of the screen and just substituting it in the search results.

I've tested a differrent journey entirely. Guildford to Woking for Monday 31 March leaving at 14:30 and returning at 20:35. It can find no tickets!

So is anyone else having issues?

Update: I have just tested their Web site, not logged in and the problem seems to be with the app.

I cant see a departure at 14:30

My apologies. I should have said from 14:30. That was the search from time.

Anyway it is working if I use their Web site, so I will do that for now and also try reinstalling the app.

I resolved that problem and reinstalling the app worked for that ticket.

However, I have hit a new problem.

If I search for tickets for Guildford to London Zones U123456 when I am not logged in, I get a price on their Web site of £17.55.

This is what the breakdown states:
  • Ticket price
    £26.40
  • Booking fee
    Free£0.00
  • RailCard Savings
    -£8.85
  • Voucher
  • Total
    £17.55

Trip.com state they don't charge a booking fee. That is the same as South Western Railway will charge me.

When I used their Web site and I am logged in and the train.com discount is applied I get a price of £17.55.

Now look at the break down
  • Ticket price
    £26.40
  • Booking fee
    £0.71
  • RailCard Savings
    -£8.85
  • Annual
    -£0.71
  • Voucher
    Add Promo Code
  • Total
    £17.55

If they don't charge a booking fee then why does the Web site list one and why does the 4% saying equal the cost of the booking fee, which they claim not to charge anyway.

Now this is the breakdown on the app with the train card applied.

  • Original fare
    £26.40
  • Booking fee
    £0.00
  • RailCard Savings
    -£8.85
  • Annual
    -£0.71
  • Total
    £16.84

£16.84 is the price prior to the £0.71 being taken off and is more expensive than buying the ticket from South West Trains.

The other ticket I buy, which is a super off-peak is correctly giving me the discount. So something is wrong but it isn't uniform for all tickets purchased.

So if anyone is going to use trip.com for journeys where split ticketing doesn't exist or isn't worth it, make sure they are not charging you more.
