There could be a multitude of reasons as to why they fail to couple/uncouple but once the uncouple button is pressed the units MUST be uncoupled, if they fail to uncoupled in the normal manner, they will have to be manually uncoupled, at least at GWR we don’t have to do it if we don’t want to as very few people are actually trained
It seems the problem was due to the front set "not being able to test the brakes of the rear set, due to some electrical fault", as told to me by one of the many staff scratching their heads at Carlisle. Train was cancelled, so was the 1521. Two road coaches were put on for passengers for Oxenholme (interesting seeing as M6 closed), not sure how the 20-carriage loads of passengers were despatched, as I baled onto the 1450 to Leeds, thence 1748 to Manchester, thence 1925 to Wolverhampton etc etc. My return delayed by only 3 hours.......

Did the 11 27 Carlisle to Preston via the S&C today with 805.005 & 805.010.
805.007 had spent the night on the platform at Carlisle after failing yesterday.
805.001 was dispatched to drag it to Oxley Sidings but they were still having problems when we departed at 11.35.
The 16.07 from Preston to Carlisle via the S&C is shown as cancelled.

I'm surprised they didn't hire something to drag it out of the station, as it's been blocking half a platform for two days.
I was booked on the 0923 (4) this morning but got a message around 2am that the service was cancelled, I got to the station for the 0726 and that was also cancelled.
The RRB from Carlisle to Preston was surprisingly good and the only time in my life I will pass under a large gap in the WCML, the journey took just under 2 hours.
On Wednesday the 0923(4) should have been a 2 x5 car but problems meant it left Carlisle 53 minutes late to Preston as just a 5 car, it was due to return as a late running 1207 from PRE but a technical issue meant it was cancelled.
