There were a proposal a while about about adding a diesel on a class 92, turning them into a bi loco, Just curious isit possible if a class 90 can be fitted with a small diesel/battery?

If you can find the space inside, anything is possible but not necessarily desirable. Once all the internals have been changed to smaller modern equivalents and moved around to make the space, you likely as not may as well buy new.

If the Elecrric Spine was completed, I reckoned a Class 90 with 750V DC conductor shoes retrofitted to the bogies for Baskingstoke-Southampton would have been be a good idea.

I get ya, Its mainly looking at the class 88 on freight duties showing how flexible they are, was wondered if a class 90 could gain more flexability on its duty.

Once you start thinking about chopping and changing BR-era locomotives, you might as well just go new build.

Same comment.

That a 769 has yet to enter service answers your question there regarding rebuilding old stock.
I very much doubt they will enter service. They should’ve been looking at converting DEMU’s into bi mode trains not EMU’s

Well... Adding holes for pantographs was looked at and deemed bloody tricky (project thor etc).
At least in theory sticking a couple of rafts in empty space under the solebar of a trailer car should be much easier.

The other thing to consider is that there aren't any DEMUs spare - it's only the Voyagers/Meridians and they're all somewhat in use at the moment (Neither the Avanti 221s or EMR 222s will be released until 2022 IIRC). Also very inappropriate for the sort of services 769s (might eventually) work
