Is Tonbridge safer than Redhill

In a BBC article on direction services from Tonbridge to Gatwick Airport was the following qoute.

Natalie Lawrence, an assistant head teacher from Tonbridge, wants the service back.

She said: "Currently I do not like waiting at Redhill as it’s a bit of a dead station.

"In the daytime it is fine, but coming back in the evening I don’t like it.

"Tonbridge is a safe station and as a single woman travelling it would be much better to have that connection from Tonbridge.”

Gatwick Airport: Calls for direct rail service to Kent to be reinstated

Network Rail says there is no immediate plan to reinstate direct trains from Tonbridge to Gatwick.

Is Tonbridge safer than Redhill? I've never felt unsafe at Redhill but I'm a man.

I can't comment on Tonbridge as I've never been there, but the handful of times I've been to Redhill, the town itself certainly felt a bit rough. Redhill station never left any strong impressions (of unsafety or otherwise), mind.

Somewhere that does feel awfully dodgy after dark is Chessington South station, but that's going off topic...

There are staff around at Tonbridge at all times of the day. It’s a signing on point and you will also often see revenue enforcement. This will even be at very late times of the day. Redhill feels deserted by comparison.

I'd say Redhill is safe enough when I've used it, although I have never been at the dark hours

Redhill has a staffed waiting room on platform 1/2 which is rarely closed. Tonbridge is staffed as well. Redhill station is a bit quiet between late trains though.

Tonbridge trains leaving from the top end of platform 1 can leave passengers feeling as if they are waiting in a quiet bit of the station.

A female colleague of mine travelling from Redhill to Tonbridge at 9pm last week chose to pay extra to travel from Redhill to Tonbridge via London Bridge (and through to Tunbridge Wells), rather than use the direct train and connection at Tonbridge.

Tonbridge is posh as anything, only beaten by Sevenoaks & Tunbridge Wells

Redhill less so. Reigate’s nice
