Hi all, I’ve looked at the routing guide and I can’t say for certain. Is an off peak Cambridge to Eastbourne return via Brighton? I think it is, but would rather check.

Yes, it is valid. Maps LB and VB are applicable for the route after London and both maps allow you to go direct from Haywards Heath to Lewes or Haywards Heath - Brighton - Lewes.

The logic here is that Cambridge to Eastbourne is defined in the routeing guide as valid via LONDON, which is the one exception to the “not recursive” rule in that you calculate two sets of valid routes, Cambridge to London & London to Eastbourne. The latter gives you the maps identified earlier.
If your ticket has a maltese cross you can cross London by tube or rail; without one it’d still be valid on Thameslink.
