Is there a case to reopen Ashby station?

The town has a size of over 12000 with a small industrial park, and I know people who take (took) business trips there and have to drive or be driven. The station has a very nice building that could be spruced up and reopened and it could have a basic hourly XC service. It sits on the line between Burton and Wigston which is now only used for freight. There hasn't been anything official on this in quite some time but given the Skelmsersdale project this one would be cheaper and easier to do since it doesnt involve building a new station and track and might have a profitable outcome. Thoughts?

The Ivanhoe Line. I thought this scheme had died with privatisation but I see that local authorities in the area are trying to revive interest in it.

It will involve new track as what is there is likely knackered, its suffering with subsidence too and there is the often discussed issue of how you get to Leicester itself.

Can’t get to Leicester without reversing, needs Leicester to be re-modelled, Burton end bay needs putting in.

Cost : Benefit only really stacks up if you are actually looking at a reasonable quality service such as Derby to “Leicester South”, with some sort of Major Parkway and everything Intercity and Regional stopping but that doesn’t work either.

Might just about support a through service from Derby to Ashby and then turned back.
