Not only is the Earth flat, but it's also hollow (concentric rings all the way down!) and expanding from within (was much smaller when dinosaurs were around, so gravity was weaker and that's why they could grow so big) and was, of course, only made in 4004BC .... Oh, and the Moon is a hologram.

That's why they spray chemtrails you know, to hide the truth :D
You forgot the lizard people... <D

Similar logic applies to those who believe the Moon landings were faked. The Soviet intelligence agencies were certainly following the US space programme closely. It's well documented that they acquired important technical information that acellerated the development their version of a Space Shuttle and of course their signals intelligence was tracking every spaceflight that NASA launched. If there was any hint whatsoever that the Moon landings were anything less than legitimate you can bet that the Soviet propaganda machine would have been all over it... But no, the landings were reported as fact by Soviet press and no hint of any suspicion has come from any Communist archives.

I wonder whether they too believe the conspiracy theories about the 9/11 planes being holograms :)

The one thing I always think about the whole flat earth tosh is why?

What basis would any government or body or illuminati want to lie about the shape of the Earth? It serves no purpose...

The Flat Earth Society facebook page is more laughable than the StopHS2 facebook page. It does seem to be run by someone who is just trolling for the sake of it. Always answering a question with a question. And some of the people who go on there to troll the trolls. E.g. NASA have a big hose to put the Sun out of a night, then relight it in the morning :D

If you fancy a laugh, check it out. Apparently the Flat Earth believers also believe that Australia is not real which must mean that England are great at Cricket and Rugby now :D

The first mention of that that I saw came from the Flat Earth Society of the University of New South Wales. Seeing as the generally-accepted wisdom is that NSW is in Australia, it begs the question whether they think that they actually don't exist o_O

If the earth is flat, are we allowed to push Trump off the edge of it? Has anyone ever asked him whether he believes in a flat earth? I have a feeling that he'd answer in the affirmative - he's probably planning to deposit Stormy Daniels over the edge right now.

Next they will be suggesting that all our actions are watched over and influenced by imaginary friends that are utterly omnipotent, care about us enough to watch our every move and thought yet don''t care enough to intervene in time of crisis. They advise us to murder other people that believe in a DIFFERENT imaginary friend through books written in a different language thousands of years ago and translated many times since, books that billions of folk accept without question. TBH, flat earth seems positively grounded after that..... round earth indeed tsssk lol

As we're discussing the flatness of the Earth on a rail forum, I feel compelled to post this XKCD comic:

Train: A machine that grabs the Earth by metal rails and rotates it until the part you want is near you.

Elementery Physics my dear boy, all a matter of reference frames. However all of the spinning of the earth plays havoc with the alignment with the sun, that's why we have to change the clocks twice a year..

One of the Flat Earthers on This Morning's Facebook page was laughing at the idea that you could hover a helicopter and wait for the place you wanted to be to rotate underneath you.
There's no reason why you couldn't of course, if you had enough fuel.

Plenty of videos on YouTube of go pro cameras attached to a balloon and sent into the atmosphere, you can't tell me the planet looks flat after watching that

I always assumed Flat Earthers were just trying to generate an interesting discussion by playing Devil's Advocate. It sounds like it's working. I keep hearing about them everywhere recently.

I don't think you could do that, unless you could escape the earth's atmosphere in a helicopter, which is impossible.. A hovering helicopter stays in the same place relative to earth, however long it hovers.
For the same reason that if you're on a train going 125 MPH, and you jump, you land in the same place as you started on the train, not several feet away.

I live a hop, skip and jump from Land's End. I'd never realised how literal that description might be. On a clear day, you can make out the outline of the Isles of Scilly, which I've never felt the urge to visit, but if they're confirmed to be literally in another world I might make the effort.

I went to the Scilly Isles with my parents when I was a kid.
My mum was so seasick on the boat on the way over that she spent the first day of our holiday in bed with the room swaying from side to side.
Anyway. There was definitely more world beyond the main island although it was mainly blue and wet...
Don’t know if this helps with the evidence for this thread?

Technically the earth is almost a sphere, but is more like an oblate spheroid - with an irregular surface.

I'm in the same place on the train, but I'm not in the same place relative to the Earth's surface because the train has continued to move forwards.

Correct.
And if you're in a hovering helicopter, you're in the same place relative to the ground, but you've moved in space as the earth has rotated.
It's the same thing.
