Is the diversion compulsory?

Hi folks,

I'm planning a family day out in December and we usually use off peak travelcards from Chalfont & Latimer to London. Is usually buy from a national rail ticket site in order to get a groupsave discount (TFL don't offer it).

Due to engineering works, the ticket shows a diversion via Aylesbury and Princess Risborough (with Bus replacement for part) as no Chiltern trains are using Chalfont & Latimer.

As I don't plan on actually using Chiltern Railways but use the Metropolitan line trains, can I still travel to and from Chalfont & Latimer or do I have to follow the (very long) diversion?

Surely you'd have to find out if LU are operating on that day to answer your question? Have you checked their website?

Also, if TfL don't run a Groupsave scheme, are you permitted to travel on LU services on a Groupsave ticket?

The engineering works are between Aylesbury and Amersham which means that here are no Chiltern trains that day. The Met line is ok as far as I know.

The tickets are standard off peak travel cards (see image) which we normally use on Met line from Chalfont with no issue. The group save discount is from Chiltern railways.

Journey planners don't generally show LU Met services between Amersham and Baker Street as they run wholly on LU infrastructure, so don't automatically feed through into NR systems.

They should show as a "fixed link" during Engineering Work though, assuming Chiltern have activated them.

Is there not interavailabiltiy between Amersham and Baker Street/Marylebone anyway, so National Rail and LU tickets are valid on each others services?
Obviously, once inside the zones, a Travelcard is valid regardless

There is, but journey planners need "help" to include the LU section. Otherwise you get silliness like the OP saw.

That's what I thought but wanted to check. As I'm starting and finishing at Chalfont & Latimer I assume I'll be ok.

I actually live in Aylesbury but find it easier and cheaper to park at Chalfont (6 trains an hour) when going to London.

Unless on that day I can start and finish short at Aylesbury and go via Princes Risborough with those tickets and Journey planner details

Looks like this has now been resolved and the London Underground Met timetable has been added in to the journey planner data for the day the OP was looking at.
