Is relocating frowned upon...?

Yep long time before, we also have a bloke who does 100 miles each way every day, by the end of the working week he looks wrecked.

Plenty of FCC drivers live in Colchester, Southend, Clacton, Lynn drivers live in Norwich, Yarmouth, there is even a kings cross driver who lives in Plymouth (he stays with a mate if unable to get to/from work I believe).

Out of interest when does this fatigue index come in to effect? The only thing I know of it is what TDK says on here. There is no talk of it at work, quite the opposite with diagrams being lengthened and tightened up. I can't see FCC relaxing any of the work in order to meet a new fatigue index!

If I was doing that I would do anything I possibly could to get a local transfer, or relocate, or if that is not possible I'd stay in a B&B or Hotel near work before ever considering that sort of stupid milage. Why does he do it?

It is going to be implimented over the next 2 years, it is a voluntry scheme however the ORR/RSSB have supported it so it will be in all companies interests to adhere to it and they will certainly adhere to it and this is why there is a massive recruitment drive and the strict guidelines on location, as for the existing driver further away than 45 minutes the only solution is to have a linking system that takes this into account.

I used to travel every day from North Wales to Birmingham, 1hr 45m before doing my shift, fortunataley I have managed to get a job now within 45 minutes of home and it isn't easy travelling all that way and doing a shift, I was going to relocate but was fortunate in getting a job closer. The reason he does it is probably that he cannot get a job with a closer TOC, most likely he has form.
