I don't think anyone here has said otherwise.

Having said that, they know what they are signing up for AND they are unknowns. Neither of those apply to Michael Jackson who died very suddenly before a 50 day residency tour. That is of course not to take away what our armed forces etc do.

His music has influenced tens of millions of people all around the world, and will do for a long long time yet. You just need to look at any form of talent show anywhere in the world - I guarentee there will be an act that either sings a MJ song or uses MJ music.

He was one of the last true superstars in the industry, and he has been for 45 years out of his 50. Everyone knows who he was - either for the right or wrong reasons. A lot of people are too young to realise he has been a star and constantly in the media spotlight and hounded by paparazzi for 45 years.

Failing a sucessful assination of the UK PM or the USA President, I don't think we will see anything like this media coverage in our life times again.

And no, I'm not a fanboy, infact I'm not even a fan, but I'm just looking at it objectively.

I think it's awful people are making jokes, with most of them being downright awful anyway. I make particular reference to LilLoaf's attempt at the top of page 3 of this thread. Not only did it not make sense but was in poor taste.

I am not a fan of Micheal Jackson, but some of his stuff was pretty good. I was even playing 'Thriller' earlier this year.

And I don't see why they shouldn't have newsflashes on BBC News, Sky News or whatever. Micheal Jackson inspired several generations, has millions of fans around the world and passed away rather unexpectedly. I certainly didn't expect him to go at 50, still fairly young. There have certainly been far less interesting newsflashes on BBC News 24 in the last year. I forget which one particularly made me wonder why it was 'breaking news', but hey.

Some members on this thread mention that soldiers that pass away as a result of the war hardly get a mention. This is true, but some people go on about this as if they pass on without any mention at all.

I only heard about Micheal Jackson's passing away earlier this afternoon when it was queried about in someone's status on Facebook. But that's because I don't watch TV or listen to the radio probably.

I'll finish this post by saying that it is sad to hear such a legend has passed away and that I was a bit shocked when I heard. My thoughts go out to his family, loved ones and friends.

The point i was trying to put across is that it is sick when there s nothing on the tv but michal jackson. yes the man has died big deal people die every day
such as our troops but when it happens to them they only get a 2 minute slot on the news and thats it. our boys are dodging bombs and bullets every day and getting paid peanuts were as MJ is just singing and getting millions

I'm not being rude and I respect your cousin highly for what he does, many nowadays won't join the Army.

But surely you feel the way you do on the boys in Iraq/Afghanistan because you know someone out there? If you didn't know anyone out there I don't think you'd feel so heavily on the subject. I'm not knocking it, it's the way British public are, only really care about things deeply when it has affected them, Knife crime being an example.

Isn't it true, though, that we should assume innocence until guilt is proven? That's what is said in the law of both the UK and the USA (although not necessarily word-for-word), and I think it's a good thing to bear in mind.

Michael Jackson was a music icon, the king of pop and a fan by myself and billions of others around the world. I am going to start a project on based on one of his music videos - Stranger in Mosco w which was a 1996 classic and made no.4 in the charts. The video is wierd but fascinating and I totally understand it. It is based on 6 people living in Moscow, Russia including Jackson himself who feel isolated as the world moves around them (slow motion illustrates this greatly in the video). My project aim is to capture images like that in the Stranger in Moscow video and I have some superb ideas and friends I would like to use in order to this to the best of my ability. One thing I noticed in the video was Moscow looked very similar to Glasgow in some parts which is one of the reasons why I think I might be successful on doing this project and the fact I come from Glasgow myself is also a bonus. I don't know any of your family, so would it be ok for me to make jokes about them if they sadly died?

Nobody is taking it to heart, it is just a case of pointing out what isn't acceptable behaviour to people who have been alive for less than a 3rd of the time that he has been a world famous star.

My thoughts exactly when I saw a photo of him on breathing apparatus in hospital on the cover of OK! magazine in Asda today. Quite why would anyone want to see something like that is beyond me. Left me wondering what on Earth the rest of the magazine had in it, judging by their choice of cover I would imagine it's the magazine equivalent of The Daily Sport (ie, flith and general rubbish no-one would want to be seen dead reading)...
