Is it worth upgrading to first class?

Travelling London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street @ 11:07 weekday.

The difference between 1st & std class is £18.50

According to the virgin booking website it says it will be a 9 coach pendolino. It looks like I am booking far enough in advance to have the pick of any bookable seat

Is it worth me paying the extra?

I realise this is very subjective - I just wondered what more knowledgable (than me) people would advice

I probably wouldn’t, for £18.50.

There’s plug sockets at tables and free wifi in Standard via the Virgin Red app. The seats in First are nothing special and at 11:07 northbound you shouldn’t have any trouble at all getting two adjacent seats to yourself in Standard.

The majority of the time I’ve travelled in First they’ve been really damn stingy with the catering, coming round once, or at most twice.

Save the cash and get yourself some decent nosh from the shop!

Is it worth it? That depends on what you call good value for money! I guess it depends on what your expectations are.

Yes I think I would say so at that price, especially if you are the sort of person who is likely to get hungry and buy something from the buffet car or buy your own breakfast/lunch before boarding anyway.

The last time I booked tickets to and from Liverpool I paid an extra £15 for First Class which was £35 instead of £20. So for me I found that it was worth, especially as it covered the leg up Euston too.

As as soon as we left, the friendly staff came round to give out cups of tea and coffee. The bacon sandwich was very tasty and having the free Wi-Fi and plug socket was very convenient so I could use my iPad and charge my phone. The seats are a little bit more comfortable and the guarented table at every seat is larger too.

The First Class lounge was a nice luxury to have at both ends as well. Seeing as through advance tickets make you wait up to an hour between connecting trains it gives you something to do.

I would say that the extra money sounds reasonable and it is worth it for me personally. Nice things in life are never cheap and sometimes it is good to put the price aside and it is good to treat yourself.

I appreciate that this will all be included in the price but you should be offered tea or coffee, beer or wine, and a bacon sandwich. You'll also be able to wait in the first-class lounge in London (which shouldn't be busy at that hour).

It all depends what you fancy doing.

I recently did Virgin first class advance return to Glasgow from Euston. It worked out about £20 extra. I had at least 12 cups of tea, used the first class lounges, 2 rounds of sandwiches, bacon buttie, cakes, crisps, chocolate and water. It'd of cost me an awful more if I'd brought it in the shops and buffet. Worth it....then yes.

I find first class a bit staged or maybe thats not the word ha. You get a Breakfast then nothing is offered for example afterwards .
Quite like to do a dinner service.
Does anyone like sitting opposite a stranger in first class eating?
